Education for children with acute and chronic health and mental health needs at WCH, FMC & LMH

Today is the 25th Birthday for in South Australia. The Clown Doctors bring so much more than laughter to the young people we support. They create moments of joy, connection, and relational safety, helping students feel seen and human. These moments of fun and genuine connection remind our young people that there are smiles beyond what has brought them into hospital. The Clown Doctors provide this equally for parents and staff and are an important part of our day.

A proud night for Hospital School SA! 💫 Tonight, we celebrated two of our phenomenal early career teachers at the 7NEWS Young Achiever Awards - SA.
✨ Kellie – Nominee
✨ Riley – Semi-Finalist
At HSSA, we pride ourselves on ‘growing’ educators and fostering and supporting early career teachers. Kellie and Riley are the perfect examples of this, committed, passionate, and deeply connected to our young people and families.
Congratulations, both! So well deserved. 👏

There’s something really special about being able to welcome people into the unique world of Hospital School SA and share what learning, connection and support can look like in a hospital setting.

This week, I had the pleasure of welcoming Blair Dravitski, Principal of Te Uru Tarata Lemonwood Grove School from New Zealand to our school as part of the Principal Exchange supported by the SA Primary Principals Association, the New Zealand Principals Federation and the Department for Education, South Australia.

Last year, I had the opportunity to visit schools and education settings in Aotearoa New Zealand, so it was wonderful to now bring that experience full circle by sharing our own “every day” here at Hospital School SA.

One of the most valuable parts of exchanges like this is the opportunity to spend time alongside staff and young people, seeing firsthand the care, flexibility and relationships that help support students through challenging times. It also creates opportunities to learn from one another, share ideas and strengthen how we support children and families across different education settings.

During the visit, we were also able to spend time at Nailsworth Primary School and Walkerville Primary School, as well as connect with local principals to share ideas, experiences and approaches to supporting student wellbeing and learning.

We are incredibly proud of the work our staff do every day and grateful for opportunities like this that help showcase the importance of hospital education and the power of collaboration across schools and communities.

Thank you Adelaide Football Club for the visit today. You made Pahal’s day. He’s one of your biggest fans.

Today some of our regional and interstate primary students walked up from the Women’s and Children’s Campus to Government House.

Although Her Excellency, the Governor of South Australia was in the South East today, the students had a chance to speak to Mr Bunten, listen to the band, watch the Morris dancers and eat lunch in the beautiful garden.

Every year at Hospital School SA we get the privilege of walking alongside some incredible young people and their families. The data in this video shows the scope of our work in 2025. The numbers matter because they help us understand who we’re connecting with and how we can keep improving for them. But they only ever tell half the story.

Behind every number is a child or teenager dealing with a physical or mental health impact.

To all our young people and families, thank you for letting us be part of your world this year. We’re grateful for every conversation, every win, every wobble and every moment of growth. You remind us why this work matters and why we fight for it.
