Today at Hospital School SA’s Flinders Medical Centre Campus, educators and clinical staff celebrated Indigenous Literacy Day supported by Raising Literacy Australia. It was a special occasion as we helped launch the pilot program, Shaping Deadly Minds – the much-anticipated adaptation of Words Grow Minds.

The Shaping Deadly Minds book and resource packs were unveiled with the children, families, educators and supporters – and every child took one home to yarn, play, share stories and sing with their caring adult.

Co-designed with Aboriginal leaders, community and service providers, and delivered in partnership with Aboriginal early years services, the packs provide families with culturally relevant resources that support children to build important early language and literacy skills.

We’d like to acknowledge this fantastic initiative from Raising Literacy Australia and what a valuable resource this will be at Hospital School SA.

Shaping Deadly Minds has been made possible through the generous support of private and philanthropic donors, including Firefly Children's Foundation, The Advertiser Foundation and Minderoo Foundation.

Today we celebrated 50 years of Flinders Medical Centre and Hospital Education at Flinders. From ward activities, to ward learning, to a learning program, to what Hospital School SA is today! To celebrate, staff dressed like it was 1976!

Our Principal Matthew along with SALHN CEO Kerrie cut a birthday cake along with staff from HSSA and the paediatric ward.

With support from WCHNetwork and Variety SA, we had a visit from Adelaide Crows and players Josh Rachele and Charlie Edwards.
Will showed Charlie his cooking before Charlie took on chef duties 👨‍🍳 and Alice showed Josh some animal facts before they both drew an orangutan and you can see the level of concentration from Josh 😉. Thanks boys for coming in.

With one question from ELSPETH HUSSEY , ambassador for WCH Foundation , Pahal let everyone know his dream was to be an Adelaide Crows banner maker. With the support of the WCHNetwork and the generosity of the Adelaide Crows this dream was fulfilled. Our Principal, Matthew along with HSSA staff Riley, Lauren, Kellie and Melissa were able to surprise Pahal with the officialcrowscheersquad and the making of this week’s banner. Pahal was in his element and regularly roused everyone with his favourite Crows chants and cheers. Thank you to everyone involved for making this special experience for Pahal. He loved spending time with Charlie Edwards and James Borlase and being gifted a Lachie Sholl guernsey. This weekend Pahal will join the Crows Cheer Squad at the game… we’re sure you’ll hear him!
