🤗 Term 3 Recap! 🤗

We’re a few weeks late, but gosh, Term 3 was just the best!

Going through our photos, it looks like all we did was practise our chalkboard letters, finish our number booklets and learn lots of new sounds. But we also read and talked about amazing stories together, learnt new games in our tutoring sessions, sang and danced with Miss Georgia, practised playing and communicating with each other, and above all, had so much fun along the way.

I know we say this every term, but we truly love what we do and are so grateful to our families for trusting us with their little ones. The little moments we share with them each week mean more to us than anything! 💛

All of our morning classes are now FULL.

We have just a few afternoon places left for Term 4:
📅 Wednesday 11:30am–1:30pm

📅 Friday 11:30am–1:30pm

The Preparation Club is our school readiness program for children aged 3.5 up to starting Prep. In small groups of no more than 8, children build early literacy and numeracy skills, letter formation, confidence and the social and emotional skills that make the move to big school feel exciting rather than overwhelming.

🌟 We're looking for a new teacher to join the HeadStart Club team 🌟

Support Club is our small group literacy and numeracy tutoring program and we're growing. We'd love to find a warm, skilled educator to join us at our Noosaville studio.

The role
• Monday and Wednesday afternoons, 3:00–5:30pm
• 45-minute sessions — 1:1 and small groups (maximum 4 students)
• Prep to Year 6, literacy and numeracy
• Ongoing, term-time position

What we offer
• Well above award rate
• Paid planning time, scaled to your group size — you're paid for prep and notes, not just class time
• Small groups, so you can focus on teaching
• Resources, programs and planning support provided
• A genuinely collaborative team

You'll love this if you are a qualified teacher (or bring strong primary tutoring experience), teach through play, movement and hands-on multi-sensory strategies, build easy rapport with children, communicate warmly with parents and want work that fits around school hours or other commitments.

A current Blue Card is essential. QCT registration is desirable but not essential.

“Just share!” is one of the most common things we say to toddlers. It’s also one of the least effective. Here’s why. 👇

Sharing is actually a developmentally advanced skill. And expecting it too early doesn’t just not work, it can create more conflict, not less.

Ages 1–2: Sharing is essentially neurologically impossible. Their sense of self is still forming. When a 1-year-old grabs a toy back, they are not being unkind. They are being 1. The goal here isn’t sharing. It’s co-presence.

Ages 2–3: Empathy is beginning but emotional regulation is very limited. Forced sharing often backfires. “Taking turns” is more developmentally appropriate and even that
requires patient adult support.

Ages 3–4: This is where genuine sharing starts to become possible, but it still needs scaffolding. This is the prime window for teaching problem-solving strategies rather than
directing outcomes. One phrase we love at HeadStart Club:”It looks like you two have a problem. Do you need help solving it, or do you think you can work it out together?”It gives children agency. It positions you as a collaborator, not a referee. And it builds the conflict resolution skills they’ll
use for the rest of their lives. 💛

Silly rhymes are not just fun. They are literally building your child’s reading brain. 🧠

Before children ever pick up a book, one of the most important things they can do is play with the sounds of language. And rhyming is one of the most joyful ways to do exactly that.

When children rhyme, they are developing something called phonological awareness which is the ability to hear and manipulate sounds in words. Research consistently shows this is one of the strongest predictors of reading success.

Cat. Hat. Mat. Sat. They all end the same way. Only the first sound changes. When your child notices that pattern, they are learning something huge, that words are made of parts that can be swapped and played with. That’s the foundation of decoding.

Try this at home:
“Can you find a word that rhymes with...?” (celebrate even the made-up ones — blat, frog, schmup — all perfect!)
Point out that only the beginning changes — “listen: cat… hat… bat. What stays the same?”
Make it ridiculous. Rhyme their name, the dog’s name, tonight’s dinner. The laughter IS the learning. The sillier the better!

I am so blown away by these little learners 💛

This term we’ve introduced two brand new concepts in the Preparation Club, chalkboards and number booklets, and both take a LOT of getting used to. But my favourite part… the concentration faces that we see each week 🥹

By the second and third session, they were already memorising how to draw up their own chalkboard: tree, three branches and eggs, all while practising the shapes we’ve been learning across the year.

The number booklets have been a challenge. They trace the number, write it on their own, and then draw that many objects. It’s taken lots of one-on-one time going over how to form each number correctly.

Here’s a little challenge for you: ask your child to write the number 3. Or 2. Or 5. See how they go 👀

It’s honestly not an easy skill to master and it’s such an important one before they start school.

We’ll keep working on these concepts for the rest of the year. Our morning classes are now full, but we’ve just opened our Thursday afternoon (12-2pm) and Friday afternoon (11:30am-1:30pm) classes. If you’ve been thinking about joining us, now is the time before your little one starts school next year.
