🌿 Learning, sharing and building community resilience

A NNEST representative recently joined the latest Gippsland Forest Dialogue session, this time exploring fire in our forests.

It was a genuinely valuable opportunity to hear from some incredible knowledge holders about bushfire risk, community preparedness, emergency planning and the many different perspectives involved in living alongside and caring for our forests.

One of those knowledge holders was John Schauble, author of The Australian Bushfire Safety Guide, who very generously donated a couple of copies of his book to NNEST. 💚📚

We hope these will become part of the community resources available to borrow from our future library at the NNEST Bush School, giving locals another practical way to learn, prepare and build resilience.

Because community resilience isn’t just about what happens during an emergency. It’s built long before one arrives, through knowledge shared, skills learned and connections made.

A huge thank you to John for sharing both his knowledge and these resources with our community, and to everyone involved in creating spaces where different experiences and expertise can come together. 🌿🔥

Healthy forests. Thriving communities. Learning for life.

🏆 TOP BLOKE AWARD GOES TO… ADAM FROM SIMPSON & SONS! 🏆

A huge NNEST shoutout to Adam, who shared his time, skills and knowledge to help us assess the septic system at the former Noojee Primary School site. 💩🌿

A big part of NNEST’s model is people sharing what they know to help build community capacity, and Adam did exactly that when we needed it, helping us move another step closer to getting this site back up and running for the community.

And any Noojee local knows how often you hear:

“Sorry, we don’t travel that far.” 😅

Not Adam. He told us he actually enjoys the beautiful drive out this way!

So we’re very happy to give a plug to a regional service that genuinely values servicing our little community.

Thanks Adam. We really appreciate you. 💚🌿

Here’s hoping we can turn that shared hope into something lasting for our community. 💚

A new community-led group in Noojee - Nature, Nurture, Education and Sustainable Tourism - known as NNEST, is working to establish a nature-based community hub and social enterprise for Noojee and the surrounding region.

🌿 What helps a community feel connected and well?

This recent article explores the growing number of Australians experiencing very low life satisfaction and highlights the importance of community connection, trust, belonging and having a voice in local decisions.

While financial security and access to services matter enormously, wellbeing is also shaped by whether people feel connected to others, valued within their community and able to participate in decisions that affect them.

This is part of why NNEST believes community spaces, shared activities, practical skills, creativity, nature connection and opportunities to contribute are so important.

We would love to hear from our community:

What helps you feel connected and supported where you live?

What kinds of activities, spaces or opportunities would help strengthen wellbeing and belonging around Noojee?

There are no wrong answers. Sometimes the strongest communities begin with a simple conversation.

ABS data shows one in 10 people are not satisfied with life – but community cohesion and trust lift happiness scores
