At West Coast Steiner School, every fortnight we focus on a virtue. Our current virtue is Caring.

Caring is giving love and attention to people and things that matter to you. When you care about people, you help them. When you do a careful job, you give it your very best effort. You treat people and things gently and respectfully.

You care for others when you show love and concern by doing kind things for them. Ask them how they are and what they think. When they are sad, ask "How can I help?" You handle things with control and gentleness. You give your best to everything you do.

This week we are celebrating Teacher Aide Appreciation Week!

Our Education Assistants work tirelessly behind the scenes, often going above and beyond to support our students, teachers and classrooms. So much of what they do happens quietly and without recognition, yet their care, patience, flexibility and dedication make such an important difference every single day.

They are there to lend a helping hand, provide encouragement and reassurance, step in when things get tricky, celebrate the small wins and, quite often, do whatever is needed to help our students thrive.

We encourage families to consider thoughtful ways to communicate their gratitude to our amazing EAs - some handpicked flowers, a thoughtful card or poem or a cuppa from the Hub!

Consistency over Intensity: another way in which the Circle of Security fundamentally aligns with Steiner pedagogy. The morning handshake everyday, the morning circle everyday, the main lesson everyday...

We're drawn to the heroic moment. The teacher who stays late. The intervention that turns everything around. The single conversation that changes a child's trajectory.

But research in attachment science points to something less dramatic.

Consistency over intensity.

It's the tenth quiet morning greeting. The predictable way a teacher handles a transition. The routine that tells a child: you can count on me, because I'm the same today as I was yesterday.

Those moments don't make good stories. But they're what security is actually made of.
