This practical and empowering workshop is designed to help women and teens build confidence, improve awareness and learn simple, effective self defence skills in a safe and supportive environment.

February Theme: Integrity

This month, our classes are centred around the value of Integrity. Integrity teaches children to do the right thing, even when no one is watching. Through our martial arts training, students learn how to practise integrity not only in class but also at home, at school, and with others.

These are the four lessons we will cover:

Lesson 1: Integrity means doing the right thing, even when no one is watching us.

Lesson 2: Integrity means telling the truth, even when its uncomfortable.

Lesson 3: Integrity means doing what you say you will do.

Lesson 4: Integrity means doing what's right, even when its hard.

This Month’s Focus: DISCIPLINE

Lesson 1: Discipline means doing the right thing, even when it feels hard.

Our students are learning to:
✅ Listen the first time
✅ Try their best even when tired
✅ Stay focused in class

They practise discipline at home, school, martial arts and in everyday life by making good choices and not giving up.

Theme of the month - Self Control

WEEK 1: Controlling Our Bodies 🤲🧘‍♂️

This week at Empowered Martial Arts, we are helping our Kids (4–6yrs) and Juniors (7–12yrs) build one of the most important black belt skills: self-control of the body.

In karate, everything begins with stillness, balance and choosing the right movement at the right time. Before we can kick, punch or block with power, we must first learn how to slow down, focus and control our bodies.

✅ Kids Theme: “My body listens.”
✅ Juniors Theme: “I choose what my body does.”

Throughout this week's classes, students will practise:

• Standing still in line - calming their bodies even when excited.
• Strong, focused stances - learning to hold their ground.
• Waiting for their turn - building patience and awareness.

These simple but powerful habits help children stay safe, concentrate better and build confidence both inside and outside the martial arts school.

As you head out for trick-or-treating, remember these simple safety tips to help everyone enjoy the night safely - just like we did as kids:

🕷️ Stay in groups and keep an adult nearby.
🕸️ Use footpaths and cross at lights - never between parked cars.
🎃 Carry a torch or glow stick so you can be easily seen.
👻 Only visit well-lit homes and never go inside a stranger’s house.
🍬 Parents - check your children’s treats before they dig in!

Empowered Juniors – September Theme: Gratitude

Last week in class, we talked about gratitude as being thankful and appreciating what we already have. 🙏 For example, being grateful for the toys or Nintendo Switch we have now, instead of always wishing for the next upgrade.

This week, we take it a step further: Gratitude is an action.

We encouraged our students to show their gratitude by:

💖 Saying “thank you” to parents, teachers and coaches
🍽️ Helping at home (like setting the dinner table)
📚 Offering help to classmates at school
🌎 Doing small acts of kindness for others (while remembering to stay safe with strangers)

When gratitude moves from just a feeling to something we do, it becomes a superpower that makes life brighter for everyone around us. 💪

Last week, I had the privilege of awarding Danyon his Red Belt – a significant milestone in his martial arts journey.

The Red Belt represents leadership, responsibility and the ability to inspire others. Danyon has consistently demonstrated these qualities, serving as a positive role model not only to our Juniors and Kids Program students but also to his peers in the Teen/Adult Program.

His enthusiasm for learning, commitment to refining his skills and willingness to support others have made him an invaluable member of the EMA team.

We are proud of Danyon’s achievements and look forward to seeing him continue to grow, lead and inspire as he progresses in his martial arts journey.

🌟 July Theme at Empowered Martial Arts: FOCUS + EFFORT = RESULTS 🌟

This month, our students are learning a powerful lesson - that the results we achieve in martial arts, sport, school and life come down to how well we focus and how much effort we give.

We discuss that:
✅ High focus + high effort gives us a greater chance of success
✅ Consistency matters - sometimes we need to stick with it and keep practising before the results show

These are life skills that go far beyond the dojo.
