Here at moo we are deeply aware we have sat on both sides of the table. We have been a parent sitting and listening to specialists and professionals talking about our family and the challenges we face

we have also had this discussion with families. we have had to have complex and hard discussions.

its both of these perspectives that gives us a deeper understanding of our families and how to work with them.

Sadly, a common comment that I hear in the education system is that the student is just lazy and that they don’t really have that diagnosis!

Every student has the right to access learning that meets their needs, regardless if they have an additional need or not!!

Remember!!

1. All students can learn
2. Every child has a right to a high-quality education
3. Effective teachers provide engaging and rigorous learning experiences for all students
4. A safe and stimulating environment is integral to enabling students to explore and build on their talents and achieve relevant learning outcomes
5. For students with disability and additional learning needs, reasonable adjustments should be made

It can be daunting going to advocate for your child. At times, parents/guardians don’t know what their child is entitled too. My role as your advocate is to provide emotional and moral support to the student and/or their parents/carers.

In a world filled with endless opportunities, education stands as the foundation of progress, empowerment, and personal growth.

It's the key to unlocking doors you didn't even know existed and the path to discovering your true potential. Education ignites creativity and nurtures critical thinking – skills that last a lifetime.

1️⃣ **Personalised Learning**: Every child is unique. By advocating for your child, you ensure that their educational experience is tailored to their needs, strengths, and interests. 🌈✨

2️⃣ **Empowerment**: When you actively engage in your child's education, you empower them with the knowledge that you support their growth and development. πŸŒ±πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

3️⃣ **Stronger Educational Outcomes**: Your involvement can lead to improved academic results, increased motivation, and a lifelong love for learning. πŸ“ˆπŸ“š

4️⃣ **Life Skills**: Your advocacy teaches your child important life skills like self-advocacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving. These skills are invaluable beyond the classroom. 🧠πŸ’ͺ

Remember, your voice is powerful, and together, we can create a better educational experience for our children. πŸ—£οΈπŸŒ

"What's the Difference Between Equality and Equity?

In an educational context, equality means that everyone has access to the same educational materials, regardless of their abilities. On the other hand, equity involves differentiating educational materials to individual levels, ensuring that everyone can access the curriculum effectively.

All too often in education, teachers adopt a 'one-size-fits-all' approach with their students. While there may be various reasons for this, it ultimately hinders the success of our young learners.

At Moo Educational Advocacy and Consulting, our goal is to address this challenge by supporting families, young individuals, and their schools in promoting equity over equality."

Welcome!

I am Lauren, the owner of Moo Educational Advocacy and Consulting. I am the mum to two beautiful little girls, Zoe, and Millie. Zoe was born in 2020 and was diagnosed with a chromosome deletion. The last 3 years have been an amazing but exhausting journey navigating the complex system to support her. In my other life, I am a secondary school teacher and have been for the past 9 years specialising in inclusive education. During my time in the education system, I discovered that young people and their families are unaware of what they are entitled to when it comes to additional support when a young person is struggling with their learning and/or they have a diagnosis.
We are here to support families and their young people. We want you to know what your rights are as a parent and what rights your child has in an educational setting.
We know it’s scary. It’s scary to ask questions, it's sometimes scary to stand up and say what you think but remember you KNOW what is best for your child.

We are here to help you.

Sometimes, speaking out can be intimidating. You find yourself in a room filled with people in sophisticated attire, individuals who have immersed themselves in the field of education for years. They've absorbed all the theories and content, and they've witnessed it all.

And then there's you, a parent. You might not be well-versed in the system, but you possess something none of them do. You know your child. You've been there with them through the tears and frustrations. You've endured sleepless nights, pondering what steps to take. You've faced struggles alongside them.

Never allow anyone to convince you that you don't understand what's possible. Don't let others dictate your child's capabilities or limitations.

Speak up, even if your voice trembles.

we work with young families and young people from a wide range of backgrounds and challenges that impact their learning. This includes Mental health challenges such as Depression, Anxiety, and school refusal. As well as learning challenges such as Autism, ADHD, and Auditory Processing Disorder.

Our services include consultations around learning needs for young people, education around the rights of young people and their parents within the education system, and review and support around the implementation of strategies to support young people in school.
