St Patrick's School, Nhill

St Patrick's School, Nhill St Patrick's School is a Catholic Primary School located at Nhill, Western Victoria, offering a diverse curriculum underpinned by Catholic values. St.

We promote Gospel values and nurture spiritual development for children and families of all denominations. In February 1949, the Sisters of St. Joseph opened a Catholic School, sited in the J.P. Ryan Hall, Leahy Street. Their dedicated service continued until 1979, when lack of numbers forced the Order to inform Bishop R. Mulkearns of Ballarat that they could no longer supply teaching staff. The f

irst Lay Principal and Teacher were appointed in 1979 and a few years later a decision was made to build a new school. The new school building was completed in time for the 1983 school year. Since then there has been significant capital works culminating in the current excellent facilities. The voluntary efforts and hard work of many school community members are evident at St. Patrick’s School. The continued good will and support of the community ensures its vital role in the future education of the wider Nhill community. Patrick’s is a modern and inviting school; the grounds are spacious and immaculately groomed. The playground area includes covered playground equipment, an oval and a covered area for use during our hot summers and wet winters. In the classroom, students have access to laptop computers and iPads with internet access and use of interactive televisions. The library is open plan and very well resourced and additional stock is added regularly. We offer an exceptional education facility with a Catholic – Christian value base. Our staff members are professional and we are very proud of our magnificent facilities. Staff members foster each individual child’s learning and particular talents, assisting children to learn to their full potential. We offer a diverse curriculum and have strong community partnerships. The children at our school are happy and love learning. There is a real “family” atmosphere where everyone genuinely cares for one another.

FUN FRIDAY:

Today's Fun Friday activity was Paper-Planes.

Students made a paper plane just before lunch time and then gathered on the hard court for their flights.

Whilst some planes suffered a bit of turbulence and some struggled to travel more than a metre, there were also some very impressive flight paths.

The longest flight in each class was recored by:

F-1s Tyge and Marina (and Mrs Woods)
2-3s Kyan and Zion
4-6s Daniel and David

These then had a fly-off with Daniel recording the longest flight.

Palm trees then challenge each other with the winner progressing to 'volcano' while the loser goes back to the coconut stage and starts again.

Volcanoes challenge each other with the winner progressing to 'king.' Kings then challenge each other with the winner continuing as 'king.'

At each stage, the loser returns to cocnut stage.

Each class hasd a three-minute timer on the play. Those who were still kings at the end of the time limit were declared the winners.

WWSSA ATHLETICS:

Tomorrow we are sending a team of 21 students to Warracknabeal for the West Wimmera School Sports Assoc Athletics Championships.

For those keeping an eye on the weather tomorrow, it certainly isn’t looking ideal, although it is looking better than the original date of Wednesday. With no backup date, it is all systems go for tomorrow.

With wet weather on the horizon, the plan is to push on and keep track events moving through, rather than sticking to the scheduled times, in the hope we beat the rain or at least minimize the time spent out in it.

For parents attending, please keep a close eye on where we are up to with events and listen for announcements, to ensure students don't miss their events.

We wish all of our student competitors well for tomorrow.
