Building success: Tyson Doherty (OGC 2006) 💪🏻

Congratulations to Old Collegian Tyson Doherty and the team at Doherty Building Group, who were recently recognised at the 2026 Master Builders Victoria Regional Building Awards – Western Region with the following accolades:

Winner - Regional Master Builder of the Year 2026 (Doherty Building Group)
Winner - Best Custom Home $2-4 Million ('Sandcastle' project, Connewarre)

The awards come in a significant year for Tyson, marking both 10 years of Doherty Building Group and 20 years since graduating from The Geelong College.

Based in Barwon Heads, Tyson has built an award-winning business in the region he calls home. The judges described 'Sandcastle' as a home that celebrates ‘form, craftsmanship and atmosphere’, recognising the quality and attention to detail behind the project.

We congratulate Tyson and the entire Doherty Building Group team on this outstanding achievement and encourage our entire community to support and celebrate their continued success.

A century on, the connection remains strong 🩵💚

On the weekend, Old Collegians, Old Geelong Grammarians, families, friends and supporters gathered to celebrate a significant milestone for Geelong Amateurs Football & Netball Club - '100 Years of Ammos'.

These familiar faces are a reminder of the enduring ties between the club, the College and Grammar, 100 years after its founding in 1926.

🎬 Fantastic to see Old Collegian Isaac Crawley (GC 2012) is making waves on Netflix, starring in the thriller Killer Whale, currently among the platform’s most-watched films in Australia.

Isaac plays Chad in the Lionsgate production, which follows a trip to a marine park that takes a deadly turn. Reflecting on the experience, Isaac described it as ‘super exciting’ to work alongside established actors on a major production.

A self-described ‘Geelong boy at heart’, Isaac remains proud of his hometown and the support he continues to receive from the Geelong community.

Many in the College community will also know Isaac as the son of much-loved former Head of Junior School Sondra Wolfenden, who told the Geelong Advertiser: ‘He always loved singing and dancing, even when he was a toddler.’

After studying at The Geelong College, Isaac trained with Moore Grace Acting Studios and has spent the past decade balancing acting with a career in law. His screen credits include Neighbours, Christmas Neeve, Squids and Ground Up.

Congratulations, Isaac, on this latest achievement. We know what we'll be watching on Netflix tonight 🤩🍿

Congratulations to Matt Solomon (OGC 2012) on an outstanding return to elite GT racing after a nine-year absence.

After stepping away from top-level competition, Matt has made a remarkable comeback, finishing second in Race 1 before claiming victory in Race 2 at the Zhuhai International Circuit in China. The result secures his place in the 73rd Macau Grand Prix this November on the legendary Guia Circuit.

Matt's motorsport career has spanned more than a decade at the highest levels of international racing, including competing in the Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix and the FIA Formula 3 Championship, as well as achieving multiple GT3 class victories with Mercedes-AMG alongside two-time Formula One World Champion Mika Häkkinen.

Away from the track, Matt is Director of Solo Studios Ltd, a Hong Kong-based media production company producing video and digital content.

Matt’s very first sponsor was his father, Peter Solomon (OGC 1973), whose belief and support helped launch what has become an impressive international career.

As part of our Year 9 Futures Week, we were delighted to welcome three recent Old Collegians – George Johnston (OGC 2017), Philippa McQuinn (OGC 2016) and Zephyr Seignior (OGC 2024) – to share their career journeys and insights with our students.

From transforming recycled plastic into valuable new products, to taking an innovative gym inspired cutlery concept developed in Year 12 through to commercial production, and pursuing a career in the performing arts, each panellist demonstrated that there is no single path to success.

Their stories resonated strongly with our Year 9 students. The key messages were clear: career journeys are rarely linear; do your best at VCE without becoming fixated on a single outcome; be kind to others and to yourself; step outside your comfort zone; embrace opportunities; and don't be afraid to try things that challenge you.

Thank you, George, Philippa and Zephyr, for giving your time so generously and inspiring the next generation of Geelong Collegians with your honesty, enthusiasm and experience.

More than 130 Old Collegians who left the College over 50 years ago returned to campus on Saturday for our annual Sic Itur reunion.

The day included a presentation from Principal Simon Young, guided campus tours led by our Year 11 students, and a wonderful lunch featuring a welcome from OGCA President Kylie Mackey and a Toast to the College by Rob Logie-Smith. It was wonderful to see former teachers Bob Seaton, Michael Keary and John Nelson join us for lunch.

The day also included a special tribute to the Exploration Society and its pioneering spirit, with Phil Taylor sharing memories of its lasting impact on generations of students.

After lunch, guests enjoyed a range of activities, with some touring Mackie House, others watching the second half of the First XVIII football match against St Kevin's, while many stayed on in Morrison Hall to continue catching up over afternoon tea.
Thank you to everyone who joined us—we look forward to welcoming you back again.

Yoshifumi Tsukiji (OGC 1995)

It is always special to welcome Old Collegians back to College after many years away.

Yoshifumi, an exchange student from Okayama, Japan attended College in 1993 and recently returned after 33 years for a trip down memory lane. He even stayed with his original host family.
While much has changed, so much was familiar including McArthur House!

Yoshifumi spoke warmly of the impact his short time at College had on him, describing it as his second home and coming back to reflect and reconnect with who he was back then.

Now a wedding planner, MC and rock ‘n’roll performer in a 1950’s style band, Yoshifumi was especially looking forward to eating a meat pie again. Apparently, they still taste the same!
