Our Year 9/10 Art students have been exploring portraiture through a Cubist-inspired project influenced by Pablo Picasso. Students took on the challenge of drawing a famous person, carefully focusing on key facial features before layering and rearranging them to create abstract portrait compositions. Through this process, students developed their observational drawing skills while experimenting with shape, composition, and perspective in creative and unexpected ways. It has been exciting to see how differently each student approached the task and interpreted their portrait.

This morning at Assembly, Mr Nugteren shared a message based on the Bible verse, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29b). Students were intrigued by a series of “believe it or not” stories, leading to the important reminder that, although we have not seen Jesus face-to-face, we can still have faith and believe in Him because the Bible tells us so.
We also sang My Lighthouse, and it was wonderful to see everyone enthusiastically joining in with both the singing and actions. A fantastic way to begin the day together!

Our Year 7 Tech students have been enjoying regular visits to the Eskleigh Men’s Shed since the beginning of the year. Working alongside the talented volunteers, students have been busy building and finishing their very own flat-pack camping tables.

It’s been a fantastic hands-on learning experience, with students developing practical skills, teamwork, and confidence along the way. Great work, Year 7s!

In Outdoor Education, the 3/4 class took on an exciting shelter-building challenge using only 5 sheets of A4 paper! 🏕️📄

Working in teams, students designed and built shelters strong enough to protect a Lego person from nature’s elements. There were a few important conditions:
• The Lego person had to fit fully inside or under the shelter.
• The shelter needed to stay standing during testing.
• Students could fold, roll, tear, scrunch, layer, weave, slot, or twist the paper to create their design.
• Each team had one build session and one improvement session to refine their ideas.

Once completed, the shelters were taken outside and tested against wind, rain, sun/heat, and earth conditions. 🌦️💨☀️

Throughout the challenge, students developed their communication, cooperation, problem-solving, creativity, and risk-awareness skills while learning how planning and wise design can strengthen their ideas. We also reflected on Proverbs 24:3 – “By wisdom a house is built…” and how thoughtful planning and teamwork help create strong foundations.

Can you guess which one lasted the longest?

What's coming to NCS.....

A GAGA PIT !

'What's Gaga Ball?', I hear you ask? ........

Well Gaga Ball is a fast-paced, high-energy game played in an enclosed pit where players dodge, strike, and avoid the ball using only their hands. The aim is to stay in the game by avoiding getting hit below the knees! It’s fun, inclusive, and perfect for building teamwork, coordination, and active play.

I know the students are looking forward to being able to play in it.

We hope the mothers, and mother figures, of the NCS community have had a beautiful and blessed Mother’s Day. Thank you for the love, care, strength, and kindness you pour into your families and our community each day.

“Her children arise and call her blessed.”

What a wonderful morning we shared with all our NCS Mothers at the Mother’s Day Assembly and Morning Tea! 💐

It was so special to hear from Pastor Anthea Maynard as she was interviewed by a familiar face to us all, her daughter and our very own Miss Bridie Maynard. Thank you both for making the morning so meaningful.

A big thank you also to our Year 9/10 students for serving and helping care for our families throughout the event.

We are so grateful for the love, strength, care, and support that mothers and mother figures bring to our community each and every day. Happy Mother’s Day! 💕

Middle School Camp
Our Year 6, 7 & 8 students embarked on the annual Middle School Camp to Interlaken. Designed to support students as they transition into High School at NCS, the camp focused on fostering friendships, building confidence, and encouraging teamwork through a rich outdoor experience.

Students enjoyed a wide range of activities including kayaking, fire lighting, finska, archery, craftwork, fishing, shelter construction, swimming and soaking in the hot tub. The natural beauty of the location, combined with the fun and adventure of outdoor learning, created the perfect environment for students to learn, connect and grow.

The Middle School Camp offered a unique experience that grew relationships, left lasting memories and produced a strong foundation for the transition into High School.

What a wonderful start to Term 2 at Playgroup!

We had such a fun time playing together and creating some very special Mother’s Day crafts. It was lovely to see so many happy, smiley faces, and we were so grateful the rain stayed away so we could enjoy some outdoor play too!
