Winter can affect more than the temperature.

Shorter days, colder mornings and less time outdoors can leave us feeling flat, disconnected or out of routine.

Nordic Walking can help bring some structure back into the week. It gets the whole body moving, gives the mind something positive to focus on and creates time outdoors in the fresh air.

Walking with others can add conversation and connection. Walking alone can offer quiet space to reset. Pace, distance and terrain can all be adapted to suit how you feel on the day.

Sometimes, feeling better starts with getting dressed, picking up your poles and taking the first few steps.

Nordic Walking is getting noticed well beyond our own community.

The Independent has published a feature looking at why Nordic Walking is so much more than walking with poles, with INWA Lead for Children & Teens Education Katie Atkins sharing her knowledge and experience.

As Nordic Walking Australia is the Australian branch of INWA, this is especially relevant to our community here. It helps reinforce the same internationally recognised technique, education and standards we teach across Australia.

It is fantastic to see Nordic Walking receiving this kind of mainstream coverage and helping more people understand how good technique can support fitness, strength, mobility, balance and overall wellbeing.

Please have a read and, if you enjoy it, share it with someone who might be curious about Nordic Walking.

Learning Nordic Walking is not about copying someone else’s pace.

It is about building your technique step by step.

A structured course gives you time to understand the poles, develop a natural rhythm and practise each part of the movement with guidance from an INWA™ certified instructor.

Once the technique begins to come together, Nordic Walking feels more purposeful, flowing and enjoyable.

A Nordic Walking Instructor does more than lead a group along a track.

They teach a recognised technique.

They notice when someone’s movement begins to flow.

They adapt the pace, terrain, and intensity to different people.

They help create regular opportunities for movement and connection in their local community.

Nordic Walking Instructor training includes self-paced theory, an in-person practical day and support from Nordic Walking Australia as you develop your skills.

Could this become part of your professional future?

The distance matters less than how the walk made you feel.

Perhaps you discovered a new track.

Perhaps you finally found your rhythm with the poles.

Perhaps you laughed all the way back to the car.

Perhaps the post-walk coffee lasted longer than the walk itself.

Nordic Walking creates space for movement, conversation and shared experiences.

Share this with someone who makes every walk more enjoyable.

Nordic Walking poles are made for a very specific movement.

Unlike ordinary trekking poles, they use a fitted glove-style strap system that keeps the hand connected to the pole as it opens behind the body.

This supports the long, relaxed arm swing and purposeful push that create authentic Nordic Walking propulsion.

The right poles matter. So does the right technique.
