A huge congratulations to all students who achieved 97% or higher attendance in Term 3!

This is a fantastic achievement and reflects the commitment, consistency and dedication these students have shown towards their education. Attending school regularly provides students with the best opportunity to stay engaged, keep up with their learning and make the most of school life. We have had 98 students achieve 97% or higher attendance so far this term.

We are incredibly proud of these students and their commitment to being at school every day.

🌟Building Bright Futures with PKUC

Students at Newman Senior High School recently enjoyed a fantastic visit from Susan and Relma from Pilbara Kimberley University Centres.

Working with students from Years 9 to 12, they delivered interactive sessions focused on future career opportunities, effective study skills, and university pathways.

The sessions encouraged students to think about their aspirations and the many options available to them beyond secondary school.

We're pleased to share that Relma will return next month to provide one-on-one pathway planning sessions, offering personalised support to help students make informed decisions about their future.

Thank you to Susan and Relma for sharing their expertise and empowering our students to dream big and plan ahead.

What an incredible day for STEM at Newman SHS!

The Newman SHS & CME STEM Showcase was a huge success, bringing together Newman SHS students, our visiting Year 5 and 6 students, primary schools, industry and community partners to celebrate the exciting future of STEM learning in Newman.

A very special thank you to CME and BHP for their ongoing partnership and support in helping us create authentic, industry-relevant STEM opportunities for our students.

We were honoured to welcome WA Education Minister Sabine Winton, Member for Pilbara Kevin Michel MLA, and Pilbara Director of Education Ash King to the Showcase. Their attendance highlighted the importance of STEM education and the strong partnerships between schools, industry and the wider community.
We also thank our visiting primary schools, staff, community members and industry partners who attended and helped make the day such a success.

But most importantly — we could not be prouder of our Newman SHS students!

Our secondary students stepped up as STEM leaders, mentors and ambassadors, confidently leading activities, demonstrating their skills and inspiring our visiting Year 5 and 6 students. Seeing our students share their knowledge, problem-solve, collaborate and encourage younger students was a fantastic reflection of the capabilities we are developing at Newman SHS.

From robotics and coding to engineering challenges, innovation and problem-solving, the day showcased just how much STEM learning at Newman SHS has grown and the incredible opportunities now available to our students.

The Showcase was about more than technology. It was about inspiring the next generation, building 21st Century skills, connecting learning with industry and creating strong pathways for our young people to succeed — right here in Newman.

We are incredibly proud of our students, our staff and the Newman community.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in making the 2026 Newman SHS & CME STEM Showcase such a memorable and successful event!

Get ready for a week of fun, reading and creativity! Students can look forward to a range of activities throughout the week, including quizzes, a library scavenger hunt, and Write a Book in a Day workshops.

🎭 Don't forget our Book Week Dress Up Day on Friday! Come dressed as your favourite book character and join in the celebrations.

🔨 SALT Workshop Opportunity 🔨

On Friday last week, 30 of our Year 8, 9 and 10 students had the fantastic opportunity to take part in the Supporting and Linking Tradeswomen (SALT) Workshop.

SALT provides hands-on workshops, practical trade activities and career pathway opportunities, helping young people develop valuable trade skills, build confidence and discover careers in the trades.

🧰 Our students worked alongside the SALT team throughout the workshop to design and create their very own toolboxes. It was fantastic to see our students getting hands-on, learning new skills and exploring down the pathway in the trades.

👏 A huge thank you to SALT for providing our students with this valuable and engaging opportunity!

📢 Reminder: Open Reporting Day - Monday 24 August 📢

Please note that Newman Senior High School will be closed to students on Monday 24 August due to our Open Reporting Day.

Students are not required to attend school, and families will need to make alternative arrangements during normal school hours.

Parents and carers have been emailed information about booking appointments to meet with teachers and discuss their child's progress.

🌟 Follow the Dream Careers & Further Education Camp 2026 🌟

Eight Follow the Dream students recently travelled to Perth with Ms Lynch for a busy and rewarding four-day camp, connecting with other FTD students from across Australia.

Highlights included the Polly Farmer Foundation Dream Expo, a tour of the BHP Integrated Remote Operations Centre, visits to Curtin University, Edith Cowan University and South Metropolitan TAFE, as well as several recreational activities.

Students were fantastic ambassadors for the Polly Farmer Foundation Follow the Dream and NSHS. We are very proud of them! ❤️

🌟 Canberra Excursion Fundraisers- Incredible $2,500+ Raised! 🌟

A massive congratulations and well done to our Year 8 to Year 10 Canberra students for their outstanding efforts across our recent fundraising events!

Between running the tuck shop at Friday's Athletics Carnival and rolling up their sleeves for Saturday’s car wash, our students have raised just over $2,500! This is an incredible result and a fantastic start toward reducing the overall cost of the Canberra Excursion for everyone.

A special shout-out to all the students who gave up their Saturday to make the car wash such a triumph. They were on-site setting up from 8:30 AM, washed their first car at 9:00 AM, kept going right through until the final car at 1:30 PM, and stayed to pack down and clean up until 2:00 PM. Your work ethic and community spirit were truly inspiring!

Newman Senior High School would like to extend a sincere thank you to our wonderful local community for coming out and supporting the students.

We would also like to express our deep gratitude and give special recognition to the following local businesses and individuals for their generous donations, time, and support:
