ARE YOU SURE THAT'S CREATIVITY!? One of the biggest and most powerful skills that you will ever have at your disposal is creativity. Now, I know what you're thinking - "I'm not creative, I can't draw anything that's not a stick figure person!" (I mean same here!!!) But what if I told you that isn't the true essence of what creativity actually is anyway. Creativity is problem solving. Creativity is doing a different perspective. Creativity is experimentation. Creativity is exploring something with an open mind. Creativity is designing, refining, trialling. And yes, creativity is failing! Creativity is creation of something beautiful for not just aesthetics but also ingenious innovation. Creativity is constructing something from a mere idea and turning it into reality. Creativity is stepping outside of your comfort zone.

So the next time you feel the urge to say "I'm not creative" think again! Reframe the way you see creativity and you will see the power that is at your disposal and therefore at our children's disposal each and everyday!

ACKNOWLEDGING COUNTRY- This morning, a small group of our children gathered around our flagpoles to raise our new flags, generously donated by We took this as an opportunity to sing our new Acknowledgment of Country that we have been working on with the children over the last 12 months, and talk about the National Apology delivered by the Prime Minister 18 Years ago today. We used this as a time to pause and reflect on the ways we can be mindful and respectful of Indigenous culture and history, and look forward to continuing to build upon these opportunities to learn alongside the children and our community.

WE LEARN PLAY AND GROW ON AWABAKAL LAND- We have been engaging in many conversations over the past 6 months during group times, Children’s Committees, RAP Meetings and Curriculum Meetings about our current Acknowledgement of Country, and how we can make this more contextual and meaningful for the children and our environment. While we have now finalised our new Acknowledgement of Country, we were looking for a way to make this new learning visible. With this as our driving force, coupled with a want from the School Leavers to raise some funds for a special end of year keepsake, the Engineer children got to work to custom make some t-shirts for our ACELP Community. With the help of one of our Dad’s and some natural dyes from local business , the children shared in the joy of dying the shirts and watching them come to life as they dried. The children shared their voices about what they would like to have printed on the back of the shirts to connect them with our local Indigenous Culture. Some of our eager literacy learners, hand wrote the words while others drew representations of what ACELP means to them. Unfortunately, printing these hand drawn creations onto the shirts was not going to represent them accurately, but we look forward to finding a way to display these beautiful representations by the children.
A big thank you to our community of helpers, those of you who have purchased a t-shirt and to for printing the children’s words on the back of our shirts. We hope these shirts are loved for years to come and serve as a reminder that this is and always will be Aboriginal Land.
