🌱 Early Years Mathematics & Literacy Learning

In early childhood, mathematics and literacy are woven naturally into everyday play and experiences. Children develop mathematical thinking through counting, measuring, sorting, patterns and problem-solving, while literacy grows through conversations, storytelling, mark-making, books and meaningful communication.

From a Vygotskian perspective children learn through social interaction. Educators extend learning by engaging in conversations, modelling language, asking questions and supporting children to develop new understandings alongside others.

Learning doesn’t always look like a lesson — sometimes it looks like play, conversation, exploration and curiosity.
