Last Tuesday we were lucky enough to have Uncle Alex Nean attend our centre for a cultural incursion ahead of NAIDOC week. We had the privilege of watching some traditional dance & music + instrument playing throughout our incursion as well as a smoking ceremony.
An Aboriginal smoking ceremony is an ancient and sacred custom performed by Aboriginal Australians to cleanse people and places, ward off bad spirits, and promote wellbeing. It involves burning native plants to produce healing, purifying smoke and is typically conducted at significant gatherings by a Knowledge Holder or Elder - in our case Uncle Al.
How lucky are we to have had such a beautiful culturally enriching experience. A huge thank you to one of our beautiful families for helping us to organise.

Core purpose:
Cleansing: The smoke is used to clear bad energy, purify the environment, and offer spiritual protection to participants.
Healing: Historically used to treat illness, aid in childbirth, and prevent the spread of sickness.
Connection: It acts as a bridge to Country, acknowledging ancestors and bringing guests together with goodwill.

Today weโve been visited by a Kookaburra, He must of heard about our upcoming incursion. Today in anticipation of NAIDOC Week. We will be having a smoking ceremony with Uncle Alex Nean.
The kookaburra is a powerful symbol in Australia representing joy, healing, family, and new beginnings. Known for its iconic cackling call, its spirit animal energy reminds us not to take life too seriously, to embrace the healing power of laughter, and to stay grounded in community.
Cultural Significance in Indigenous Australian traditions, the kookaburra holds a sacred space as a messenger. Its loud laugh has long been used as a signal or omen in the bush, historically interpreted as a sign of impending good luck, or even a weather signal predicting rain.
What a blessing to have a wise ancestor watching over us as we play. Deadly! ๐ค๐โค๏ธ

Today we celebrated Earth Day by learning how to care for our planet sorting rubbish & recycling, how to care for our plants and exploring the beauty of nature together.
Weโve put together some photos of todayโs activities and us exploring our beautiful environment.
The future is in these tiny hands, and weโre so proud to watch them grow into kind, earth-loving humans ๐ฑ
