In what is now one of the biggest biotech transactions in Australian history, Viralytics – an oncolytic virotherapy firm originating from The University of Newcastle, Australia based on the work of Associate Professor Darren Shafren and his team, has been acquired for $502 million by the world-leading pharmaceutical company, Merck.

Calling all UON researchers! We are looking for five groups to take part in a Newcastle-based cohort at Three76 Hub in early 2017 of CSIRO's ON Program, a part-time pre-accelerator that helps researchers validate their research and discover a real-world application for it. An info session is being held on Wednesday 14 December, 4-5pm. Newcastle Innovation will be exhibiting with The University of Newcastle and NIER at the inaugural Greater Hunter Makers Festival on Friday 11th to Saturday 12th of November at the Newcastle Jockey Club.
