This week at Bright Buttons, we have been celebrating NAIDOC Week through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. The children explored Aboriginal culture and bush Tucker by making damper and bush tomato dip, creating artwork inspired for local Awabakal artists and engaging in music, dance and storytelling. They also explored Aboriginal symbols as a way of communicating, fostering respect, curiosity, and an appreciation for the rich cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Influenza (flu) is serious but isn’t as scary if you’re vaccinated. A flu vaccine offers families and children the best protection from serious illness.

The yearly flu vaccine is free for children aged 6 months to under 5 years, Aboriginal children aged 6 months and over, and children with serious health conditions. It is recommended for everyone aged six months and over.

Children aged 2 - 4 years old can get a free nasal spray flu vaccine in NSW. It is gentle, painless, and needle-free.

What does Child Safe Standard 7 sound like in practice?

“Adults understand how to keep me safe.”

“I understand that adults are taught how to behave around me.”

“Sometimes staff tell me about what they have been learning and how that keeps me safe.”

“Adults notice when I feel sad.”

Personal device restrictions form part of broader measures to support child safety in early childhood education and care services.

Talking with children about inclusion and belonging, and helping them recognise that everyone has the right to access and participate in education is vital.
