🦇 Help us name our little Flying Fox! 🦇
We have a very special little visitor to share with you! Last Friday, some of our Year 6 students found a tiny Flying Fox in our school grounds and quickly realised he needed help. They helped get him safely into the care of Hunter Wildlife Rescue, and we’ve now received a lovely update on how he’s doing. 💚
He is doing really well! He weighs 62g, having gained 8g since his rescue. As a premature baby, he is particularly vulnerable and will need specialised care for the coming months.
Grey-headed Flying Foxes are listed as a vulnerable species in NSW and nationally, so caring for and protecting these animals is especially important. 🦇💚
The exciting news is that our students have been invited to choose his name! 🎉
He will remain in care for around six months before eventually being released with the other orphaned Flying Foxes being cared for by Hunter Wildlife Rescue this baby season.
We’d love our students and families to share their name suggestions in the comments. We’ll also be able to share updates and photos as he grows and continues his journey.
A huge thank you to Hunter Wildlife Rescue for caring for this little guy — and to our Year 6 students for helping give him a second chance.
Please remember: If you find an injured, grounded, or distressed Flying Fox, keep your distance and contact your local wildlife rescue organisation. Do not touch.
