Happy Auslan Day (13 April)!

Today we celebrate Auslan - the language of the Deaf community in Australia.

Auslan is more than a language - it is how Deaf people connect, express themselves, and belong.

This day recognises the importance of Auslan and its place within Deaf culture and community.

Let’s take a moment to celebrate Deaf language, culture, and identity.

Merge AU invites you to join this celebration.

World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) Theme 2025: No Human Rights Without Sign Language Rights 🌏✊

We asked different Deaf people: “Why is Auslan important?” 💬
Their answers show the power of visual language, Deaf identity, and Deaf culture. Auslan gives us access, communication, culture, and relationships, it is our human right.

Merge AU would like to thank everyone who took part in the “Why is Auslan important?” interviews for National Week of Deaf People. We truly appreciate your time and your voices in sharing why Auslan matters. Together, we can raise awareness and celebrate our language, Deaf culture, and Deaf community. 💙🤟
