What a treat to deliver a seed planting workshop to our local families at Lake Macquarie Square through the holidays. An educational process which allowed the children to examine various types of seeds, plant them into cotton wool (which will allow them to see the roots as they grow) and teach them what special ingredients are needed to help a little seed to germinate- water, sunlight, oxygen and of course…love. All living things need love to thrive ❤️
They also saw the difference between a jar of seeds in some cotton wool and water that were left in a dark cupboard for 4 days as opposed to a jar of seeds that were left on the kitchen bench in the light. The seeds in the cupboard were still alive but colorless and not much growth. The seeds that were left in the light were so much healthier, greener and stronger. This posed a simple life lesson for them to get outside and enjoy the sunlight during their school holidays!
The pictures below show the growth of mung beans, peas and alfalfa over 4 days and then a week. A simple and fun experiment to try at home with your kids 🤗🌱
