Every teacher who’s been part of the journey has helped shape who we are today, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

There’s been lots of excitement in the office this week… 

We’ve reached more than 1,200 teachers with QTR training! Meaning there are less than 400 funded places left.

When Nick Ward, Deputy Principal at Moruya High School, thinks about professional learning, his mind often turns to his sister, a paramedic in Newcastle.

Every shift, she works alongside another paramedic, discussing decisions, reflecting on outcomes and considering how patient care can be improved. Nick saw an opportunity for teaching to work in a similar way, creating space for teachers to learn with and from their colleagues.

From doing her teacher training here at the University of Newcastle to a PhD and now working as a QT Adviser, Julie has spent years exploring what quality teaching looks like and how the QT Model can support teachers.

Big changes are coming to HSC assessment in NSW.

From next term, take-home tasks will be limited to 15% in most HSC courses, as schools respond to growing concerns around GenAI and academic integrity.

It’s a significant shift, with very little time for teachers and school leaders to move rich take-home tasks, for example, into an in-class format.

But perhaps there’s an opportunity here too: to think differently about how assessment connects with learning, rather than simply sitting at the end of it.

Every school is different. So, what does it look like to make Quality Teaching Rounds (QTR) work in your own context?

At Para Hills High School, a commitment to strengthening teaching practice was already well established. QTR gave the school a structure and shared language to build on that foundation.

But implementing QTR wasn’t without its challenges.

When relief teacher shortages made it difficult to run Rounds as planned, the school found a way to adapt the process to work within its staffing context, while maintaining the rigour at the heart of QTR.

Today, every permanent teacher at Para Hills High has participated in QTR, and the school is using the approach to support induction, strengthen professional conversations and create opportunities for teachers to learn across subject areas.
