Musical Futures International Access a massive resource platform for contemporary music in schools (Year 3-13), join professional learning events, and gain access to an epic global network.

Musical Futures is an approach to teaching and learning music in the classroom that has hands on student music performance at its core. It is a new and imaginative way of engaging and sustaining young people, aged 11-18, in music activities and engages whole classes of students in practical music making. It brings students and their passion for music together into the classroom brings non-formal teaching and informal learning into the classroom and introduces teachers to new roles as mentors, coaches and guides. Musical Futures is predicated on the belief that music learning works best for young students when they are involved in making music themselves and provides peer learning opportunities as students make music in bands with friends.

The Rock Squad unit gives upper primary and junior secondary students a scaffolded way of forming their first band. In this video, our Brisbane delegates explored the 3 songs from the “silver” level of the resource, wrote lyrics and performed it live to the group in about 20 mins. One of our fav workshops!

Was so rad to be back in Brisbane with 25 teachers exploring informal learning and MFI resources!! Massive thanks to Andrew Pennay and the team at Brisbane Girls Grammar School for hosting the day!

Huge highlight was having a group of Year 11 students put on a gig for us at lunchtime. We also had a Q&A session with them, which was a cool way of asking students directly about their music learning and aspirations 🙌🏻
