ENCORE showcases a selection of outstanding major works by HSC Music students across NSW, celebrating excellence in performance, composition and musicology.

Anna’s piano repertoire included:

Core Performance: The Sunken Cathedral by Claude Debussy
Elective 1: Primavera Porteña by Astor Piazzolla (20th and 21st Century), accompanied by Mrs Anthea Wikstrom and Mr Rodney Wikstrom
Elective 2: Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin (Small Ensemble), accompanied by Mr Dave Tracy and Mr Ben Pittman
Elective 3: Étude No. 8 by Philip Glass

To our Year 12 students, as you begin your exams, take a moment to recognise how far you’ve come and all the hard work that has brought you here. The next few weeks are an opportunity to put your learning into practice, trust your preparation and show what you’re capable of.

Remember, the HSC is just one chapter in your journey, with so many exciting opportunities ahead. Approach each exam with confidence, take it one step at a time and give it your best.

Athletics and Cross Country provide students with the opportunity to challenge their limits, build resilience and discover what is possible through dedication and hard work.

At the recent NSWCIS Athletics Championships, Will delivered a remarkable performance, breaking the NSWCIS Long Jump record with an outstanding leap of 6.85m, while also claiming gold in the Triple Jump and Silver in the 100m. To achieve this level of success against some of the strongest school athletes in the state is an exceptional accomplishment.

Gabby also enjoyed a fantastic day securing three medals with Silver in the High Jump and Bronze in the Long Jump. She then joined our Girls 4 x 100m Relay Team, winning Bronze in a thrilling finish. Congratulations to Gabby, Audrey, Sarah and Evelyn, whose teamwork, trust and determination made the result possible.

At the School Sport Australia Cross Country Championships, Rosie finished with Silver just days before her final week of Year 12!

The Year 12 Valedictory Service and Clap Out is one of the most meaningful NGS traditions and this year the Class of 2026 took centre stage. Surrounded by family, friends, staff and fellow students, our graduates came together at Christ Church Cathedral to mark the end of their school journey. Following the service, each student was honoured by name as they made their way through a tunnel of cheers and applause, creating many proud, emotional and memorable moments.

Class of 2026, as you turn your focus to the exams ahead, we wish you every success. Thank you for the memories and the mark you have left on NGS. Go well!

As the winter sport season comes to a close, we celebrate more than just results. Across Basketball and Netball, students from Kindergarten to Year 12 represented Newcastle Grammar with commitment, resilience and pride, strengthening the sense of belonging that sits at the heart of our Co-curricular community.

This season saw NGS Aquila crowned Netball premiers, NGS Lyra secure the Basketball minor premiership, and NGS Astra claim the Basketball championship. These are outstanding achievements that reflect the dedication of our students, coaches and families. Yet some of the most meaningful successes cannot be measured on a scoreboard.

Through training sessions, weekly competition, shared experiences and lasting friendships, students found opportunities to connect, contribute and belong. Older students mentored younger players, new friendships were formed, and teams learned the value of working together towards a common goal.

Sport remains a powerful way students connect with one another and the wider school community. It challenges them to strive for excellence, celebrate success, navigate setbacks and develop the confidence that comes from being part of something bigger than themselves.

Thank you to our students, staff, coaches and families for making the 2026 winter season such a memorable one. We look forward to carrying this momentum into the summer season as students take to the courts, fields and water in Basketball, Futsal, Oz Tag and Rowing.

Year 11 students spent three inspiring days at their Year 11 Conference, reflecting on who they are, the strengths they bring to the world and the opportunities that lie ahead. With a focus on wellbeing, purpose, resilience, service and leadership, students were encouraged to build confidence and consider how they can approach the future with optimism and purpose.

A highlight was the Conference Dinner, where students connected with more than 36 inspiring guests from a diverse range of professions, gaining valuable insights into life beyond school and the possibilities ahead.

A huge thank you to our wonderful presenters, alumni, parents and community guests who generously shared their time, experience and stories with our students. Your contribution helps broaden their horizons and imagine what is possible.

The final week for our Year 12 students was filled with much fun, laughter and memorable moments as they celebrated the end of their school journey. A standout was the Amazing Race, with students taking on Sydney in colourful costumes and completing a series of creative challenges along the way. From start to finish, it was a week full of unforgettable moments and a fitting way to mark the end of their time at NGS.

Recently, audiences enjoyed the Year 7 and 8 play, Where in the World is Frank Sparrow? For many students the production was about far more than the final performance. Through directing, stage management and composing original music, students developed creativity, leadership, collaboration and problem-solving skills while helping bring the show to the stage.

Henry (Year 10), Assistant Director: “I was immediately drawn in by the world, characters and storyline and couldn't wait to see it come to life on stage.”

Emily (Year 9), Stage Manager: “Being Stage Manager has given me a whole new appreciation for everything that happens behind the scenes. My favourite part was seeing the excitement and anticipation on the faces of the cast as they prepared to step on stage.”

Natalia (Year 10), Composer: “It was really special to see something I had created become part of the magic on stage.”

These reflections highlight the diverse opportunities available within our Creative and Performing Arts program and the authentic experiences that allow students to lead, create and contribute in meaningful ways beyond the spotlight.

What a showdown! The annual Year 12 Student vs Staff Volleyball match delivered plenty of energy, big plays and friendly competition. This year, the students came out on top, taking the win over the Hill Campus staff team, and happily claim bragging rights.
