Today we recognise National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day, a day to celebrate the strength, culture and identity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, and to acknowledge the important role that family, community and Country play in every child's life.

Throughout the day, our children have been engaging in experiences that encourage curiosity, respect and appreciation for Australia's First Nations Peoples. Through stories, art, music and meaningful conversations, we are creating opportunities for our children to learn together and celebrate the diversity that makes our community stronger.

We really do believe that by helping our children develop an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures from an early age helps us to build respect, empathy and a genuine sense of belonging for everyone.

Not only today, but everyday, we celebrate the voices, cultures and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and children and we remain committed to walking together in learning, respect and reconciliation.

πŸ’—πŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ«±πŸΌβ€πŸ«²πŸΌπŸ’›πŸŒΈ International Day of Friendship! πŸŒΈπŸ«±πŸΌβ€πŸ«²πŸΌπŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’—

Yesterday, across the centre we celebrated the wonderful gift of friendship! We did this by exploring what it means to be a friend and how friendships can look different for everyone.

Throughout the day, the children and educators shared conversations about the qualities they love and appreciate in their friends, including kindness, sharing, helping, making each other laugh, and being there for one another.

To celebrate our special connections, we made friendship bracelets and made beautiful friendship clouds with the qualities we love the most about our friends on them.

Overall it was a very meaningful day filled with lots of great learning, creativity, and kindness. The centre had an extra special buzz about it yesterday (which we think you can almost feel from these great pics!πŸ₯ΉπŸ₯Ή) and the opportunity to reflect on our friendships reminded us that friendships come in many forms and that every act of kindness helps build strong, caring relationships.

🫢🏾✨🌏 Happy International Friendship Day to all of our wonderful children, families, and friends! 🌏✨🫢🏾

πŸ”₯πŸš’ Safety First at Sanctuary! πŸš’πŸ”₯

This morning our children and educators all participated in one of our regular fire evacuation drills. Whilst these drills may seem like a simple part of our day, they play an incredibly important role in helping us keep every child safe.

Practising our emergency procedures allows our children to become familiar with what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency. By rehearsing our evacuation process in a calm and supportive environment, children build confidence, learn to follow instructions, and become comfortable with our safety routines. These experiences help to reduce any potential fear and uncertainty, ensuring everyone knows what to expect if a real emergency were to happen.

Our educators use these opportunities to reinforce important safety messages in age-appropriate ways, while also reviewing our own procedures to ensure we can respond quickly, calmly and effectively. Every drill is an opportunity for us to reflect, improve and ensure we continue to provide the safest possible environment for your children.

We are so proud of all of our children, who listened carefully, followed the grownups' directions beautifully, and showed us just how capable they are! πŸ‘β€οΈπŸ₯Ή

At Sanctuary, your child's safety is always our highest priority, and regular emergency drills are just one of the many ways we work to create a secure, prepared and nurturing environment for every child. 🫢🏼🐠

Thank you for trusting us with what matters most. πŸŒπŸ’š

Our wonderful Toddler Educator Zoe set up such a fun and engaging sandpit experience for the children! πŸŒ‹βœ¨

The toddlers gathered together to help create their very own volcano before sitting back in excitement to watch what would happen when the special ingredients were added. The children were full of curiosity, wonder, and excitement as the volcano erupted right before their eyes!

Hands-on experiences like these encourage exploration, teamwork, and early scientific thinking while creating lots of fun memories along the way. πŸ’›

As we observe National Reconciliation Week, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on what this time means for all of us. This week is a beautiful opportunity to step forward together, listen with an open heart, and deepen our understanding of Australia's true history.

Reconciliation is more than just a word; it is an ongoing journey that requires meaningful action, truth-telling, and unity. Whether it is in our homes, our workplaces, or our local communities, like here on Awabakal land in the Fletcher area. It is so important that we recognise that we all have a part to play in building a fair, equal, and respectful future.

So we hope you will join us in using this time to celebrate the rich, enduring cultures of the First Nations peoples and recommit ourselves to walking alongside them.

Together, we can create a nation where everyone feels valued, respected, and heard. πŸ’›β€οΈπŸ–€

We know that making new friends as parents can sometimes feel just as tricky as it does for our children! Between busy schedules, work, family life and the day-to-day juggle, it really can be hard to find opportunities to connect with other adults in your community. 🫢🏼

Here at Sanctuary ELC, we truly value the relationships that grow not only between our children, but between our families too. πŸ’›

So on that note, we are just putting the feelers out.. but we are thinking about starting a relaxed, adults-only / parent book club. This would be a great chance to unwind, talk about a good book, have a coffee or glass of wine, and connect with other parents in a welcoming space. No pressure, no expertise needed, just good conversation and a real sense of community. πŸ₯ΉπŸ“šπŸ₯°

Would this be something you’d be interested in joining / taking part in? Let us know in the comments or let someone know at the front desk! πŸ“šβœ¨

Last week Kym the reptile man came to visit us and we had so much fun!! Our children were so brave! πŸ₯Ή

Kym brought lots of different animals & creatures. As well as holding and touching them, we learnt about their habitats, where they come from, what they eat and how they survive.πŸ€“

Kym also spoke to us about the importance of not disturbing these creatures in the wild and we even learnt how to bandage a snake bite to prevent their venom from spreading!

Some of our favourite animals were:
πŸ’š The Snakes 🐍
πŸ’™ The Giant Cockroach πŸͺ³
πŸ’š The Toad 🐸
πŸ’™ The lizards 🦎

Do we think next time some of our parents would be feeling brave enough to attend? πŸ€ͺ
