A Chinese New Year lion dance from 1997 when you could still hang rolls of 1,000 live firecrackers and set them off in public places!

If you were positioned in the wrong spot you could get the odd firecracker blasting through the tail and burning you while you choked on all the smoke that became trapped under the costume.

Fun times!! 🧨💥💨😷

Our next palm striking variation is generated on an outward hip turn rather than an inward hip turn.

Spinning the central axis, or juen ging, is a major piece of how we increase or energy output in Yuen Mo Pai Kung Fu.

Lots of support for our Sijo Grandmaster Henry Sue through the 90s. These are photos of the Chinese Kung Fu Academy members after performing at the annual Tropicarnival Parade on the streets of Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Thanks to Peter and Mark from Enersolelectrical for installing a Mammoth fan in our club yesterday.

Being a factory shed means it gets hot in Summer but this fan will change all that!

I couldn’t recommend Enersolelectrical highly enough.
Peter knows his craft and was on top of the job every step of the way - from the first phone call to the walk through and options for cooling the club, from quoting to installation. Professional, efficient, and a great bloke!😁

In 1998 we helped open the Asia Pacific Masters Games with a lion dance.

It is still one of the longest performances I have been a part of!

Starting on Scarborough Street in Southport, through the mall, under the Gold Coast highway to the Broadwater Parklands for the finale of tricks in front of the VIPs and the crowd waiting there.

Chinese New Year events in the late 1990’s were always an interesting adventure.

Looong lion tails, breathing in (choking on??🤔) the firecracker smoke, going straight from 20-30 minute dances to extensive demonstrations and concrete tile breaks, and the odd surprise at the Chinese restaurants as they tested our lion skills.

The most bizarre was being asked to eat a live mud crab!!

We start swinging our hammer fist over a big distance using relaxation and one version of whole body power from the feet to the fist.
Over time that whole body power becomes much more ‘condensed’ in terms of distance, speed, and circle.
