What are the most common causes of hydraulic hose failure on forklift?
1. Hoses are not stationary – they will contract or stretch as the pressure within them changes. When hoses rub against objects, including other hoses but especially metal edges, this can result in abrasion.
2. Poor routing. Avoid routing a hose through a potentially abrasive area or a pivot point. Do not route hoses through high temperature areas unless there is no alternative.
3. High temperatures. When hoses are exposed to extreme temperatures, they begin to lose their flexibility and stiffen.
4. Improper fitting. This is usually caused by the hose being bent too closely to the actual fitting due to poor routing or the weight of the hose itself
5. Fluid incompatibility. Not all fluids and hydraulic hoses are compatible
Many hose failure problems can be addressed by making sure the hoses are compatible with the environment in which they will be operating (e.g., heat, fluids compatibility, abrasion). Others involve careful routing and assembly procedures. However, the majority of hydraulic hose failures can be identified and mitigated through routine inspection and maintenance.

Why does lifting gear break?
1. Lack of planning - Solution = follow lift plans
2. Lack of training - Solution = increase training, understand competency requirements, correct personnel selection, address culture issues regarding safety
3. Equipment selection - Solution = arrange product training, have correct equipment available, provide access to trained professionals
4. Miscalculating loads - Solution = ask for help with calculations, have third party review lift plans, refer to manufacturer for product advice
5. Shock loading - Solution = review the lift and equipment selection
6. No pre-use inspection - Solution = complete a pre-use inspection, if in doubt discard equipment and have it inspected by a professional
7. User error - Solution = never work alone, never rush a job, ask for help with calculations, assess the risk, follow procedures, always check your gear, if in doubt ask for help
