Last week REED Narrogin welcomed Senator Dorinda Cox for a visit to our centre, where we had the opportunity to share our successes and challenges in delivering high quality care across 28 locations in regional and remote WA. REED thanks Dorinda for understanding the great benefits of early education, and for advocacy to overcome the challenges in delivering services to regional communities.

Congratulations to Marcelle Saratsis, a valued long-time contributor to REED, who has been appointed to the WA Play Strategy Advisory Committee. Marcelle is a tireless advocate for children and their right to play, and has been working towards this fantastic initiative from the WA Government for some time. We look forward to seeing the results!

WA Play Strategy Advisory Committee Members 📣

Chaired by my Parliamentary Secretary Emily Hamilton MLA, the Committee met for its inaugural meeting today.

The Committee brings together extensive expertise across research, practice and advocacy, with members who have long contributed to improving outcomes for children and families in Western Australia and beyond.

REED welcomes the announcement that the Federal Government will continue to fund the 15% pay increase for Early Childhood Educators until 2028. This forms part of a phased wage increase of up to 28% in total over the next three years, and is a much-needed investment to attract and retain ECEC staff.

Our Educators deserve to be paid fairly for their skilled and vitally important work!

The grant is conditional on high standards of quality and safety, and fee increases will be capped to minimize the costs to families, with fees to rise no higher than 5.8% between August 2026 and August 2027. REED joins the rest of the sector in praising the Federal Government for continuing to support Early Childhood Education.

Early educators had threatened to walk off the job to keep a federally funded 15 per cent pay subsidy due to end in November.

REED is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors who generously share their time and expertise. This week the Board visited the REED Boddington service for a guided tour, and were delighted to meet the staff, children and families at our beautiful centre. So many improvements have been made since the centre merged with REED in 2023, supported by a partnership with Newmont Corporation. The town of Boddington and its families are thriving!
