The Floorbook Approach: Children’s Voices Leading the Learning
At AppleBlossoms, we proudly embed a wide range of documentation styles. Such as using the popular Floorbook Approach in all our programs to strengthen enquiry-based learning. Using large, shared Floorbooks allows children to document their thinking, ask questions, revisit ideas and shape the direction of their own learning.
Through this approach, children:
• contribute their own ideas and questions
• reflect on investigations over time
• make decisions collaboratively
• see their voice represented and valued
• deepen their curiosity through real enquiry
Our educators intentionally guide the process—observing children’s interests, extending their thinking and creating learning experiences that grow from the children themselves.
The Floorbook isn’t just documentation—it’s a living record of shared discovery, co‑constructed learning and meaningful conversations.
We love seeing where children’s ideas take us next.
What topics has your child been curious about lately?

🌿 Child Led Acknowledgement of Country 🌿
This week our children spent time thinking deeply about what it means to connect with Country in their everyday play and learning. Together they created their very own Acknowledgement of Country - using their words, drawings and understandings of the importance and joy in connecting with and caring for nature.
Through conversations, storytelling and exploring outdoors the children reflected on the trees, animals and landforms around them and what it means to care for and respect Bunurong Country. Their voices guided every part of this project — from the thoughtful statements to the expressive artwork. We then consulted our indigenous families who are now working with us to extend the concept of meaningful reconciliation.
We are proud of the children for their curiosity, respect and contributions!. We thank our Elders — past and present — for sharing their knowledge and stories that help us learn, grow and understand Country together.

🦎 THE LIZARD WITH NO TAIL!
This week in Kinder, the children made a surprising discovery in the yard… a tiny tail wiggling all by itself! This sparked instant curiosity and LOTS of questions:
✨ Where did it come from?
✨ Why was it still moving?
✨ Does the lizard grow a new one?
This magical moment has now become an ongoing enquiry into skinks and their fascinating defence mechanisms.
We learned that many skinks can drop their tail when they feel unsafe. The wiggling tail distracts predators, giving the skink time to escape. The best part? The tail will slowly grow back, although it might look a little different!
The children have been sharing theories, drawing diagrams, acting out “lizard escapes,” and exploring how animals keep themselves safe in nature.
These spontaneous discoveries are the heart of early learning—where curiosity leads the way and a small moment becomes a big learning adventure. 💚
Stay tuned as our investigation continues!

🌿 Creativity in the Outdoors
At Apple Blossoms, the outdoors becomes a place where children feel that gentle spark of pride — that moment of awe and wonder!. Here the children were invited to paint beneath our tree canopies.
Painting outdoors invites children to learn with the natural world, not just in it — where every discovery builds confidence, curiosity, and joy.
We value gifting our children moments of peace in busy world. Its not about the portrait – its about the quiet process.
Each brushstroke outdoors becomes a moment of quiet achievement - a chance for children to feel proud of who they are and what they can create.

🌿 A Moment of Cultural Wonder at Apple Blossoms
Earlier this week, our youngest learners gathered in a soft circle of curious hearts, drawn toward a Dreamtime storybook alive with vibrant colours, flowing patterns and the gentle wisdom of animal imagery. With each page turned, wonder blossomed. Little fingers traced ancient lines; tiny eyes followed the curves and colours that make Aboriginal artwork so deeply unique.
The room grew quiet in that powerful way that only true learning can create—
a hush filled with respect, connection and shared discovery.
To honour this beautiful moment, we share a timeless Indigenous Australian proverb:
✨ “We are all visitors to this time, this place… Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love and then we return home.”
— Australian Aboriginal Proverb
At Apple Blossoms, we are proud to walk beside children as they learn to see the world through many lenses, embracing cultures, stories and identities with open hearts and open minds.

We are proud to share that Apple Blossoms Early Learning – Narre Warren has officially published our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) through Narragunnawali.
This milestone reflects our deep commitment to creating an early learning environment that recognises, respects and celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and contributions. Embedding these perspectives into our everyday practice is not only essential to children’s learning—it is essential to building a future grounded in understanding and unity.
Reconciliation is a journey of continual learning, reflection, and action. We are committed to walking this path with integrity—together with our children, families, educators and community.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this important work. Together, we’re shaping a more connected and united future.
