😰 One thing that worries me as a teacher-turned-tutor:

Parents guessing how their child is going.

🔍 By this point in Term 1, there should already be clues:
• confidence around homework• feedback from assessments and assignments • participation in class• general observations of work habits and attitude

But many parents tell me:

“I actually have no idea how they’re going.”

That shouldn’t be the case.

Sometimes schools communicate clearly.Sometimes they don’t.
And sometimes we have so much on as busy parents, it feels like one more thing to do.
🔑 But having an early idea of how your child’s progress is key to their success.
You are allowed to advocate for your child.
You are allowed to ask questions. You are allowed to request feedback.

For most of my life, I thought I wasn’t a Maths person. 🫣

It wasn’t until I started Flexibrain that I realised I’d had a fixed mindset about my own abilities.

When I was doing my Masters of Teaching, I learned about growth and fixed mindset but it didn’t really click until I began teaching and building Flexibrain. 🧠

I started to see how my strengths – creativity, curiosity and the way I explain ideas – were actually what made me a great learner in Maths.

Teaching different strategies and celebrating how kids think has been the most affirming part of it all. ✨

The younger version of myself would’ve loved to have known this.

When kids feel safe to think and try and fail and try again, everything changes. 🥹

That’s what Flexibrain is all about: helping kids find their way and feel confident doing it.

Is there something you used to think you were “bad” at but no longer do? Comment below 👇🏽

SEND THIS TO A PARENT WHO NEEDS IT

A lot of parents come to me feeling confused (and honestly, a bit frustrated):

Their child can read the words perfectly well… yet they keep getting low scores in reading comprehension.

The feedback?

“They need to work on inferencing.” 📝

The problem? Inferencing is rarely taught explicitly at school.

It’s often something students are expected to pick up through exposure.

But for many children, that’s just not enough.

They need to be shown how to do it — step by step.

DM the word INFER to learn more about how we can support your child’s literacy needs.

You’re a super mum juggling it all… the kids’ schedules, their homework, your own work and everything in between.

On top of it all, maybe you were educated overseas, or school feels nothing like what it used to back in the day.

So of course, the Aussie curriculum will feel completely foreign and overwhelming for you!!

Even if your child is a strong reader, aces their times tables, or writes long essays — that’s not enough to excel in the system 😩

At Flexibrain, we help:

✅ Identify the most important curriculum skills your child needs

✅ Teach research-backed strategies that actually work

✅ Build independent learners, so the homework stress isn’t on you

✨ The result: confidence, independence, high grades and recognition at school, and calmer homework time.

😩 Tired of homework battles?

😢 Tears at the table?

😤 Reports that leave you second-guessing your child’s progress?

Here’s the thing… it’s not your fault. And it’s not your child’s fault either.

Buying more workbooks? Forcing extra homework?

That only adds more pressure — not progress.

What does work is simple (but powerful):

✨ a customised learning approach
✨ weekly feedback that actually guides growth
✨ evidence-based teaching that builds confidence and competence

That’s the exact mix we use with Flexibrain students.

And it’s how we go from battles at the table → kids working independently (and actually proud of themselves).

The best part?

Watching your child finally believe in what they’re capable of. 💛

If that’s the transformation you want for your child, comment the word GROWTH below.

I’ll show you how we can make it happen, together.

📌 SAVE this post!

It’s one that you’ll keep coming back to for word problems.

5️⃣ These five steps will help free students from the overwhelm that comes with many mathematical word problems.

🪜 Breaking down word problems into digestible steps is one aspect of what we do in our small group Maths Classes.

What’s more important is…

📚 …the link that we recognise between Reading Strategies and the confidence students have in Mathematics… ✖️➗➕➖

🔎 …especially when it comes to reasoning and problem-solving.

Strong reading skills allow students to:

👓 Interpret the word problem better.

🪓 Break down complex sentences into smaller parts.

🕵🏽‍♀️ Identify the most important information.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! 🏔️

How do we INCREASE description in writing? 🤔

🪄”Show Don't Tell" is a writing technique that encourages authors to create a vivid and engaging experience for the reader by allowing them to infer what is happening through actions, sensory details, and dialogue rather than it being directly told. 🎪

🥅 The goal is to make the writing more appealing and help readers to connect with the story on a deeper level.

Here's a breakdown of the concept:
❌ Telling:
* Involves directly stating facts or emotions without providing sensory details or allowing the reader to draw their conclusions.
* It can be informative but may lack the emotional impact and engagement that showing can offer.
* Example: "John was sad."

✅ Showing:
* Involves painting a picture with words, using descriptive language, sensory details, and actions to convey emotions or information.
* Allows readers to experience the story more actively, engaging their senses and imagination.
* Example: "Tears welled up in John's eyes, his shoulders slumped, and he stared out of the window. The raindrops mimicking the sadness in his heart."

Read through the slides on this post so you can understand how to:
🫣 Spot an example of TELLING
😌 Understand an example of SHOWING
👁️👃🏽SHOW don’t tell by engaging the senses
🎨 SHOW don’t tell by increasing description (adjectives, adverbs, vivid verbs)
🖼️ SHOW don’t tell by using figurative language (metaphors, similes, alliteration, personification, onomatopoeia)

🌈 By SHOWING, writers provide the reader with more space for interpretation and emotional connection. It invites readers to place themselves in the narrative, forming a deeper understanding of characters, settings, and events. This technique is commonly used in narrative writing in general to make the writing more compelling and memorable.

🧠 Show Don’t Tell is a foundational part of our writing instruction at Flexibrain. And this is only the tip of the iceberg of what we teach…

💌 To know more about how to help your child’s writing flourish, send us a DM with the word ‘SHOW’ so we can chat about how to best support their writing growth!
