Read this as a what not to do. These small, everyday habits are exactly how kids learn that power matters more than kindness.

The good news is every one of these can be flipped into something that builds empathy instead 🌸

The goal isn’t raising kids who know things. It’s raising kids who can figure things out.

Kids today can Google any answer in seconds. But solving problems is a real life skill we need to teach our kids.

Some glimpses of our book in the works — The Boy Who Sat with Grief. For all those who have lost 🤍

Grief is achingly hard. So be gentle with yourself.
Be patient with yourself. Because grief is not the end of a meaningful life, it is something you learn to carry within a meaningful life. Although it may not feel like it, happiness can return.

Teen Book…. Would you be interested?

I have been working on a teen/young adult version of the My Brain Books series for some time. I’m much better at writing picture books with rhyming lines and flowing simplicity.

I’m curious as to how many people would be interested? Should I knuckle down and get this done. Or is my attention better placed on other projects? 🤔

Humans are funny, we latch onto criticism and bury ourselves in it, but forget to bask in the praise.

I don’t do this enough, sit in the positives. Thank you to everyone who leaves such lovely reviews or writes heartfelt messages. They fill my cup and fuel me to keep pushing through all of the challenges of running a small business.

I read every single message and review, thank you from the bottom of my heart! ❤️

When we take the time to understand each other, everyone benefits, and that is real inclusion.

I’ve had the pleasure of some good conversations with Olivia Beasley. Here are 3 things she wishes more people knew about Auslan:

👉 It’s not made-up language. Auslan was created and evolved by the Deaf community. Signs often come from visual concepts or real stories.

👉 Smallest shift to sign can change its meaning. Metaphor of piano was shared by Christine Sun Kim’s TED Talk. You can watch her video to learn more.

👉 Not all Auslan content online is authentic. With Auslan trending, an estimated 90% of content isn’t. Check if the creator is fluent, don’t just trust praise in the comments.

There’s so much more to Auslan than just these three things. The more you understand Deaf community and history, the more Auslan will make sense.

If you’d like to learn more, you can do a Certificate II course with Deaf Connect or TAFE. Lisa Mills has some great resources too. A few recommended accounts to follow:

What I love about Jackson and Alex is how honest and open they are about parenting a child with a disability, the hard parts and the beautiful parts, both.

Susan David has a quote I keep coming back to: Discomfort is the price of admission to a meaningful life. So often we only hear the highlight reel of people walking difficult paths. It matters to show the full picture.

You two are such wonderful parents, and Frankie is so lucky to have you both. Thank you for your time and for sharing your experience and advice.

Hopefully this brings strength to other parents who are just starting their own journey 💛
