Just us, looking at our girl for the very first time. 🤍

One of those moments I wish I could stay in forever.

Four months later, and I still remember this moment like it was yesterday. 🥹

❌Content warning: PPA, PPD, Instruisive thoughts, suicidiality❌ # I’ve gone back and forth about sharing this on Instagram, but I do share part of my story in my classes.

The conversations surrounding the Lindsay Clancy trial have brought maternal mental health into the spotlight, and being postpartum again has taken me back to a period of my own life that I don’t speak about often.

After my first baby, I experienced postpartum depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts and suicidality.

I was functioning. I was mothering. And I was deeply unwell.

I’m not sharing my story to compare our experiences or to comment on Lindsay’s guilt or innocence. I’m sharing it because we need to get better at recognising when mothers are struggling, before they reach crisis point.

Sometimes “I’m not coping” needs another question, not reassurance that it’s normal.

Ask. Listen. Take her seriously.

Mother the mother. Because caring for her is part of caring for her baby, too. 🤎

Support resources are included on the final slide.

Birth is never just about the person bringing a baby into the world.

It’s also about the people who quietly hold the space.

My doula, my husband, and my sister sat beside me through labour. They weren’t there to fix anything or rush the process. They were there to remind me I was safe, capable, and never alone.

Sometimes the greatest support isn’t saying the perfect thing. It’s simply staying. Holding space. Trusting the process. Believing in the birthing woman, even in the moments she doubts herself.

Looking back at this photo, I don’t just see the people who supported my birth. I see the village that helped me become a mother again. 🤍

Today, I’m sending love to the mothers in the thick of motherhood, the grandmothers, the single mums, the dads doing both roles, the foster and adoptive mums, and the fur mums.

To those longing to become a mum, navigating infertility, grieving a baby, grieving their mum, or carrying complicated and estranged relationships… I see you too.

Motherhood and matrescence are not one size fits all, and this day can feel beautiful, heavy, joyful and heartbreaking all at once.

Whatever today looks like for you, I hope you feel deeply loved, supported and held. 🤍

💜Bella Grace Elaine Blanchard
Born at home in the same birth pool as her big sister, after 5 days of pre-labour.

So deeply grateful for my beautiful, supportive birth team:
❤️My incredible husband and birth partner, Matthew
🌻My amazing midwives, Geesje, Talia & Sarah (student midwife and first birth)
✨My calm and grounding doula, Jodie from Belly Blossom Yoga & Doula Services
📸My talented photographer, Bec from Bec Lawrence Photography
💕My beautiful, supportive little sister, Olivia

3 days postpartum and soaking in the slowest days, tucked up in bed, navigating feeding, letting my body gently heal.
Watching Asher and Ayla shower her with love has been the sweetest part.

Feeling so deeply held and incredibly thankful as I enter this fourth trimester. Birth photos and story to come 🤍

My final Mother Blessing 🌸🤍

Honestly, this pregnancy has felt a lot heavier than I expected. Between being unwell with HG and still showing up for work, life, and the kids, I haven’t really slowed down or taken it all in.

And if I’m honest… it’s been hard to prioritise my own wellbeing and what my body actually needs. I also find it challenging to ask to be held in this season, even when your body is urging you to ask.

So this day felt really needed.

For my Mother Blessing, each person brought a flower to create my beautiful crown, a bead for a bracelet I’ll wear in labour, and we spent time making affirmation bunting that I can carry with me into birth to read during labour 🤍

Having the space to slow down, feel supported, and actually settle my nervous system was something I didn’t even realise I needed. It made such a difference and brought me back to how important that sense of safety and support is as I head into birth.

It also brought me back to something I talk about all the time, how important your mindset is going into birth. Feeling safe, supported, and grounded isn’t just “nice to have”, it can really shape your birth experience.

There’s something really special about being surrounded by women who care for you and want to help you in this season.

Thank you to everyone who came and to my beautiful doula Jodie for creating such a safe, beautiful and grounding space 🌸💕

My final group birth class before maternity leave. 🤍

Supporting families as they prepare for birth is something I never take for granted. Thank you to every couple who has walked through the doors of The Bare Birth Co and trusted me with your journey. I’ve loved getting to know you all and watching your families grow.

And thank you especially to the couples who attended classes while I’ve been pregnant. Sharing this season alongside you, and feeling all the emotions that come with talking about pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and matrescence while expecting myself, has been incredibly special.

Now it’s time for a little pause while I prepare for my own birth and soak up this beautiful season with my family.

If you’re planning a birth later this year and hoping to take a class, feel free to still reach out about future dates or joining the waitlist for when classes return. I can’t wait to be back supporting more beautiful families soon. ❤️🤰🏼🌸

Heatwaves can feel heavy in pregnancy, both physically and mentally.
Your body is already working so hard, and extreme heat asks even more of it.

If today feels slower, foggier, more exhausting than usual that’s not a failure.
That’s pregnancy in the heat.

Save this for later 🤍
Or send it to someone growing a baby today who might need the reminder.

Take care today 🤎
