🚀 Space Week at Goodstart Narangba! 🪐

Our rooms looked a little more out of this world as we celebrated Space Week last week! ✨

Our educators had so much fun creating spaces for the children to explore — from space stations and rocket ships to planets, sensory play, construction challenges and plenty of space-themed stories.

The best part was watching what the children did with it all! A few carefully chosen resources can quickly become a rocket launch, a mission to another planet or a completely new idea we never saw coming. 🚀

It’s a wonderful example of why we love learning through play at Goodstart Narangba. We can provide the inspiration, but it’s the children’s curiosity, imagination and ideas that really bring these spaces to life.

A huge shout-out to our educators for the creativity and thought they’ve put into making Space Week such an exciting experience for our little explorers! 🌏⭐

🚑 A Special Visit from Paramedic Vycky!

Our Toddlers and Kindergarten 1 children recently welcomed a very special visitor to Goodstart Narangba — Paramedic Vycky, who brought along an ambulance and plenty of interesting equipment for us to explore!

Vycky spoke with the children about her role as a paramedic, how she helps people who are sick or injured, and the importance of knowing how to call Triple Zero (000) in an emergency. The children were introduced to some of the equipment paramedics use and had plenty of opportunities to ask questions and explore what they were seeing.

One of the highlights was getting hands-on with the bandages. The children took turns carefully wrapping bandages around each other's arms and legs, experiencing some of the equipment for themselves while practising how we can help and care for someone who is hurt. Teddy also joined us as our patient when he was feeling a little unwell!

Before saying goodbye, the children had the opportunity to view the ambulance and see the vehicle Vycky uses to respond when people in our community need help.

A big thank you to Paramedic Vycky for sharing her time, knowledge and equipment with us. Experiences like these give children a chance to meet the people behind important community roles and build familiarity with what happens when we need help in an emergency. 🚑

🏉🌈 Today’s the Day — Footy Colours Day!

Our footy colours are out and Footy Colours Day has arrived at Goodstart Narangba!

Children and educators are invited to wear their favourite team colours as we come together to support the Fight Cancer Foundation and children and young people living with cancer.

We’re aiming to raise $100, and every contribution helps us get a little closer to our goal. Donations are completely optional, with our QR code available at the front desk for families who would like to support the cause.

We can’t wait to see Narangba filled with footy colours! 💙💚💛❤️

✨️📖Calling All Budding Book Critics!📖✨️ ​

Our Community Library is here to help children discover new stories, revisit old favourites and share the joy of reading with their families — and we would love for our children to help each other decide what to read next!​

We invite you and your budding book critic to choose a book from our Community Library to take home and enjoy together. Read it once, read it ten times, talk about the pictures, laugh at the funny parts or decide together what made the story special!​

When your child next attends the service, simply return the book and choose a new one to take home. There is no need to wait for a particular library day — our Community Library is there to be enjoyed.​

Alongside the books, you’ll find our new Book Review Cards. Children can give their book a star rating and share their favourite thing about the story. Reviews can be completed by children themselves or with a little help from their grown-up — their thoughts are what matter!​

Once finished, please hand your child’s review card to our office staff. We’ll use the children’s reviews to help our budding readers make more informed book choices based on the recommendations of the people who know children’s books best — their peers!​ We can’t wait to see which books become our Community Library favourites. ​

📚 Putting Children’s Rights at the Heart of Our Practice

Miss Sheri recently had the opportunity to attend a Director’s Conference, connecting with others across the early childhood sector and engaging with conversations about the things that matter most for children.

A particularly meaningful focus of the conference was children’s rights — considering what it looks like when children’s voices, choices and perspectives are genuinely respected within the environments and decisions that affect them. For us, this connects closely with the way we want children to experience Goodstart Narangba: as a place where they are not only cared for and taught, but listened to, included and valued as active members of our community.

While at the conference, Miss Sheri also had the pleasure of meeting children’s author Dannika Patterson, whose work explores children’s rights in ways that can be shared and discussed with young children. She returned to Narangba with a signed copy of one of Dannika’s books for our service — giving our children and educators another resource to continue these important conversations together.

Professional learning like this is valuable not simply because of what our educators and leaders learn while they are away, but because of what they bring back to our children, our team and our everyday practice.

🧪 Our Toddler Scientists at Work!

Science in the toddler years starts with something very simple: “What happens if I do this?”

Our Toddlers had the opportunity to investigate colour, chemical reactions and cause and effect through a hands-on science experience. Using droppers, the children added coloured liquids to their trays and watched closely as their actions created bubbling, fizzing and changing colours.

At this age, scientific learning is built through doing things again and again. Squeeze the dropper. Watch what happens. Add another colour. Try it somewhere else. Add a little more. Each time, the children were experimenting with their own ideas and discovering that their actions could produce different results.

While they may not yet have the scientific vocabulary to explain everything they were observing, they were already practising the foundations of scientific inquiry – exploring, experimenting, noticing changes, making connections and developing their understanding of cause and effect.

Even those little droppers were doing double duty! Squeezing and releasing them required concentration, hand-eye coordination and fine motor strength while giving the children greater control over their experiments.

For our Toddlers, science doesn't need to begin with knowing the answers. It begins with being curious enough to investigate. 🔬

Creating a safe sleep environment is one of the many ways we care for children each day. From following safe sleep practices and using approved cots, to completing visual checks every 5 minutes, our educators take every step to help children rest safely and comfortably.

We also work closely with families to understand each child's individual sleep routine, because feeling safe, settled and well-rested helps children learn, grow and thrive.

💜 Safe sleep is everyone's responsibility, and it's always a priority.
