NAIDOC Week at REED Nannup was celebrated through connecting to stories, land and artifacts. We explored images, language, stories, bush tucker, role play and community connections.
One of our experiences:
Children enjoyed a wonderful adventure to the Arboretum as part of our NAIDOC Week learning. Our first stop was beneath the magnificent tall trees, where the children eagerly balanced along the large fallen logs, ran through the crunchy pine needles and explored the natural environment with smiles and excitement. As we crossed the bridge together, the children paused to look down at the river, noticing that the water level had risen since our last visit. We shared conversations about the changing seasons and enjoyed listening to the splash as we carefully threw a few rocks into the water.
We then followed the Reconciliation Path, where the children admired the beautiful Indigenous artwork displayed on the painted pavers. They stopped to look closely at the vibrant colours, patterns and animals represented in the artworks, sharing their own observations and ideas. The adventure continued into the bush where the children laughed together while playing hide and seek, weaving through the trees and using the natural landscape in imaginative ways
