CANBERRA DAY 1 AND 2// Our Year 6 students have hit the ground running in Canberra! From taking in panoramic views at Mount Ainslie to diving into interactive exhibits and exploring iconic national landmarks, the energy and curiosity have been high.

YEAR 6 CANBERRA TRIP HAS BEGUN// First taste of some of the fun happening in Canberra. Mount Ainsley famous for offering some of the best panoramic, picture-perfect views of the national capital.

INQUISITIVE MINDS// NVCCS students from years 5, 6, 7 & 8 were delighted in their participation in the Inquisitive Minds event. The thrill of competition, solving problems and dynamic presentation had students focused and eager to solve the scenarios and move onto the next challenge. Students ran to collect their next scenario and some were so motivated that they couldn't work sitting down with their excitement. It was a wonderful day of Mathematics motivation!

PRIMARY SHADOW JUDGING// In the lead up to CBCA Book Week, Primary School students will be shadow judging in the various categories of awards. K-2 will be exploring the Early Childhood Shortlist, 3-4 will be exploring Picture Book of the Year Shortlist, and 5-6 will be exploring the Eve Pownall Award shortlist (Non-Fiction book of the year).

3/4 Acacia began this on Tuesday by exploring a shortlisted book in groups and judging it on its plot/story, characters, illustrations and engagement. Engaging with these new and quality texts helps our students to appreciate reading and storytelling, while giving them a voice of preference and choice in reading.

BOOKS TO LIFE// On Tuesday, Primary students were treated to a special performance for their first day back. Books to Life visited our school to perform a readers theatre performance of Being Indy, a CBCA 2027 shortlisted book for best new illustrator. The event was filled with games, song and story with many of our Primary students participating in this fun literacy based event. Keep an eye out for other upcoming library events as 2027 CBCA Book Week approaches!

STAGE 2 ART// Stage 2 have been 'Exploring the World' in Visual Arts this term. Inspired by last year's visit to Glasshouse Port Macquarie for Year 4 camp, we ran with their amazing art idea of printing from foam onto calico bags. Students chose a beach theme or other design and carved into foam. They then painted over their design and printed it onto their bag. They also used their creativity to complete their bags with freehand painting.
