Now in its fifth year, this free, family-friendly event brings young people aged 10 to 16 together for a day centred on youth mental wellness, creativity, and community connection. The lineup includes live music, beach obstacle courses, inspiring youth panel discussions, and hands-on community stalls right along the foreshore.

As Volunteering Australia's National Youth Volunteer Week comes to a close, we are shining a light right here on home ground across our campuses. While our students are out supporting the wider community, we also rely heavily on our amazing community of local supporters to help keep our own campus hubs thriving.

One of the most loved traditions across our Caloundra, Nambour, and Deception Bay campuses is our weekly tribal lunch program, where we come together over a warm meal to connect, share stories, and build a strong sense of belonging. Preparing and serving regular lunches for growing teenagers takes a lot of hands, and we are always looking for friendly community volunteers to help us cook, prep, or lend a hand on campus.

Whether you can spare a few hours to help cook a hearty meal, share a special skill, or support our campus events and breakfast clubs, your time makes a massive difference to our students' daily lives and wellbeing.

To keep this momentum going, we are looking for community groups across the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay regions to host our Year 10 students for regular or project-based volunteering.

Welcoming our students gives your team reliable, hands-on help so you can accomplish more while strengthening our community. Because volunteering is a scheduled, weekly subject built into the school term, you get consistent support without extra administrative work. Our dedicated college staff also attend to ensure smooth collaboration every step of the way. Hosting young volunteers brings fresh energy to your workplace, helps you mentor the next generation, and supports your community goals. Our students are ready to assist with environmental care, farm work, events, retail operations, and administrative tasks.

865 Hours of Real Impact: Spotlighting Our Campuses for National Youth Volunteer Week! 🩵

It is Volunteering Australia's National Youth Volunteer Week, and we are celebrating the incredible contribution of our young people. So far in 2026, 81 Year 10 students across Kairos Community College have contributed an impressive 865 hours of volunteer service to our local communities!

Here is how our campuses are making a difference:

🩵 Kairos Nambour | 35 Students • 382 Hours
Engaging in hands-on farm work at End ED Nurture Community Garden, youth support initiatives with The Shack Community Centre, and individual local placements.

💚 Kairos Caloundra | 25 Students • 238 Hours
From planning and running Kairos Community Thrift Shop events to supporting the End ED Nurture Community Garden, Containers for Change QLD and CAYAC Charity clothing drives.

💜 Kairos Deception Bay | 21 Students • 244 Hours
Partnering with local organisations including Kingdom Makers Food Outlet, Mermaids By The Bay, and Salvos Stores to gain hands-on experience in retail operations, food relief, and community support across the Moreton Bay region.

We are so proud of the heart, initiative, and leadership shown by our 2026 Year 10 cohort during National Youth Volunteer Week and throughout the year!

It is Volunteering Australia's National Youth Volunteer Week, and this year's theme, 'Your Year to Lead', captures exactly why active volunteering sits at the heart of our learning model.

At Kairos Community College, volunteering is integrated directly into our Year 10 curriculum as a timetabled subject through the Certificate II in Active Volunteering. Traditional classroom settings do not suit every learner, and shifting the focus from personal challenges to serving others can be transformative.

Through practical community work, our students:
🩵 Develop core employability skills like communication, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving.
🩵 Build genuine confidence by stepping outside their comfort zones and discovering their strengths.
🩵 Connect with community mentors, breaking down social barriers and feeling valued.

When young people are trusted to lead, they rise to the occasion!

We are beyond proud that our Kairos Community College Nambour campus and our incredible Youth Worker, Chantelle Ellison, are official finalists in the 2026 Above & Beyond Awards, presented by Marty Hunt MP.

Earlier this week, Tim Robinson (Head of Campus) and Chantelle visited Mr Hunt's office to collect their finalist certificates.

To reach the finalist stage just six months after opening our Nambour doors is an unbelievable achievement. It speaks volumes about the incredible work our team does every day to support youth wellness and education on the Sunshine Coast. Chantelle is a finalist for the Nightingale Award, while our campus was named a finalist for Education or Skills Provider of the Year.

A massive thank you to everyone who voted, shared our campaign, and supported us over the past two weeks. We are deeply honoured to stand alongside such dedicated community leaders, and so grateful to category sponsors Nambour Selangor Private Hospital and Woombye Community Bank.

Our entire Nambour team will be attending the Awards Presentation on Saturday 15 August. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Reminder for all students, parents, guardians, and carers - Monday 13 July 2026 is a Student Free Day.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow Tuesday 14 July 2026, for the first day of Term 3 and our first excursion. We hope our young people enjoy the final day of their break and come ready for an exciting day out tomorrow!
