On the 14th of August Burnside State School students participated in Interschool Sports. Burnside had 11 teams representing our school in Netball, Oz Tag, Soccer, and AFL.
It was a big occasion for our school, as we were invited to play outside our Nambour District Region. Burnside State School played against other 5 other Sunshine Coast Schools, including Stella Maris, Buderim Mountain, Kuluin, Sienna and Mooloolaba State School.
Burnside State School students did themselves proud. Many umpires, teachers and parents from other schools complimented our students endeavour and sportsmanship. Burnside Students recorded several wins;

Netball
Yr 6’s 8/10
Yr 5’s 6/10

Oz Tag
Yr 6’s Won 2, drew 2, lost 2
Yr 5’s 4/6

Soccer - 2/8

AFL - 0/4

Whilst our AFL students didn’t record any wins, Mr Osborn (PE Teacher) was very impressed with our student’s ability to kick goals against other teams. It was amazing to see students who had never played AFL, compete so confidently.

Well done to all Interschool Students. CHAMPIONS! You all did yourselves and our Burnside State School community proud! Our next Interschool games are on the 27th of August, followed by our last on the 11th of September. It would be great to see parents and caretakers come and cheer on their children.

Districts Athletics Day

Last Friday, 7th of August, Burnside had 14 students compete in the District Athletics Day, at University of Sunshine Coast; Braxton, Stassi, Pailin, Harper, Dakota, Amayah, Josh, Emily, Fletcher, Takorua, Amber and Lincoln.

Students competed against other primary schools’ best athletes, to be selected for the Sunshine Coast Regional Team. Of our Athletes, 4 reached the Final stages of their events;

1) Braxton finished 11th in the Age 11 Shot Put Final with a throw of 7.97metres

2) Harper finished 6th in both the Age 11 Girls High Jump and 100m final with 1.08 metres and 16.34 seconds.

3) Takorua finished 8th and 11th in the Age 10 Boys 100m and Shot Put Finals with 15.61 seconds and 7.12 metres

4) Lincoln finished 5th in the Age 11 Boys Shot Put Finals, with a throw of 8.49 metres

All 14 students did amazingly well to compete in the hot conditions, on and off the track. It was great to see parents and students supporting and celebrating students events. Maddison, did not compete in the District Athletics Carnival, due to being injured. Maddison was given an exemption, as she has competed at Regional Level previously. Her strong performances in the Shot Put at the start of 2026 in Little Athletics, allowed her to automatically qualify.

Thank you to Miss Mel for being Burnside State School’s team manager whilst Mr Osborn supported District Athletic organisers in the organisation and recording of Long Jump.

Proud to be a Burnsider 😊

Mr Osborn
PE Teacher / Coordinator
