Carving up the course! ⛳

A huge congratulations to Year 11 student Charlie and Year 10 student Lachlan, who took out the Earle Williams 4BBB Matchplay at Murwillumbah Golf Club.

Charlie and Lachlan battled through 30 pairs, winning five match play games on their way to victory and earning their names on the trophy.

Big Picture Learning Australia Golds Repairs 🎥 Harry’s Documentary

Harry is taking on an incredible project - creating his own documentary capturing the entire process of crafting a traditional Hawaiian alaia surfboard, from receiving the blessing to begin the board through to documenting each stage of its creation.

For Harry, the project represents much more than simply building a surfboard.

“This project has been in the planning stages for over a year and a half, and despite all the setbacks and roadblocks we’ve faced along the way, I’m incredibly proud to say that it has finally come together,” Harry says.

A major part of the journey has been working alongside mentor John Nielson, who has supported Harry from the very beginning.

“John has given me more knowledge, guidance and support than I could ever ask for. We’ve worked incredibly closely and put so much of our love, passion and time into making this project something truly special.”

Harry has also received generous support from Tom Wegener and Margie, who supplied the beautiful paulownia blank being used to create the alaia, along with many of the tools helping make the project possible.

After more than 18 months of planning, learning, persistence and overcoming setbacks, Harry says seeing the project finally underway is an incredibly rewarding feeling.

“The people I’ve had the opportunity to work with to bring this idea to life are genuinely some of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met. I couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who has helped make it happen.”

We can’t wait to see Harry’s documentary come together and follow the journey from raw timber to finished alaia.

Year 6 Transition Day at MHS!

A huge congratulations and thank you to everyone involved in making today’s Murwillumbah High School Year 6 Transition Day such a fantastic success!

It was wonderful to welcome our future students to MHS for a busy day of activities across a range of subjects, including TAS (Food Technology), HSIE, Science and PDHPE. Students had the opportunity to explore our school, meet staff and students, make new connections and get a taste of what high school life will be like in 2027.

A big thank you to all of our staff members and student helpers who supported activities, welcomed our visitors and helped make the day such a positive experience.

A very special thank you to Ms Harverland for her outstanding organisation and coordination throughout the day.

We were delighted to welcome students from Murwillumbah Public School Murwillumbah East Public School, Burringbar Public School, Uki Public School, Condong Public School and Stokers Siding Public School, along with students joining us from Pottsville Beach Public School, Dungay Public School, Sathya Sai School, Mt St Patrick's College and Centaur Public School.

Thank you to all of the schools, students and staff who helped make the day such a success. We hope our Year 6 visitors enjoyed their first taste of life at MHS, and we look forward to welcoming them back!

This is what Big Picture Learning Australia is all about! Over the last few terms, some of our Murwillumbah High School Big Picture students have been travelling around the local primary schools in the area delivering fun sports drills, games and teaching the students fundamental skills.

Year 10 Snow Trip - Day 3

Day 3 saw our keen carvers take a step up and head to Perisher and Blue Cow Mountain. Taking the step up from green runs, to blues and double blues, students continued to challenge themselves and put their skills to the test on more difficult terrain.

It was great to see the confidence of the group continue to grow, with plenty of improvement in turning, control and speed throughout the day.

With tired legs and plenty of kilometres covered, Day 3 was another great success for our Year 10 Snow Trip! ⛷️🏂❄️
