What an absolute hoot!
Over a year of rehersals and training
Rotational private lessons
Group practices at each others houses
All weekend workshops
Mapping out the vision
Who would do each part
How would the choreography form and flow
What would we wear
Designing and creating crew merchandise
How could we fundraise
What was the colour palette
Then we would need traditional costumes and good quality
Measuring and communicating with dressmakers and jewellery wallahs in India
Lost shipping
Emergency trips
More hours and hours of practice
Rehearsals and travelling to fundraising gigs
Understanding each dancers needs and stages of development
Understanding the history, taal, Raaga of the choreography?
What is the story?
Reciting the verses
What are we drawing together?
How do we weave and interact with each other?
How do we create and make the scene alive?
Where will we dance
What can we dance on
How will it look in that space
organising stages and mirrors and musicians and mikes and sounds and
Lots and lots of fun, tears, noise and laughter
We are all looking forward to dancing the Jaganathashtakam next week at Rathayatra. It is our first presentation we have offered since completing our basic and fundamental stages of learning.

it has bhakti and devotion as its essence.
I learnt it seven years ago and performed it at our most recent workshop in Puri. It is a very unique and special dance.
We want to pay respect and honour the profound tradition we are in lineage with.
It is the intermediate children Kula, Nayana Kisori, Naya, Nayana Mani, Kaveri snd Jivanis first complete dance piece on stage.
And it is the first complete dance piece our teenagers Bela, Kisori and Ahalya will present.
