Ever had one of those "What should I be doing with my child?" moments? You might already have the answer at home.

Earlier this year, every Goodstart family received a What & When for Families guide for each child. If it's been tucked away in a drawer since then, now might be the perfect time to pull it back out.

The guide is packed with simple, play-based activities that support your child's learning and development at home. Best of all, it's written in your child's voice, with ideas tailored to their age and developmental stage.

From singing songs with babies and playing peek-a-boo, to "I Spy" games, storytelling and treasure hunts with older children, the activities are designed to fit naturally into everyday moments you already share together.

We know learning doesn't only happen in the classroom. Those small moments at home can help build big communication, language and literacy skills.

Take another look through your What & When for Families guide to explore age-appropriate activities and learning ideas you can try together.

💛 Sometimes the best learning resource is the one you already have at home.

Look who visited us today!!!!!!

Today our Kindergarten children were delighted to receive a visit from Miss Pauline who was our old ECT teacher for over 11 years and is now a Prep Teacher at Undurba State School. She introduced the children to Durby who is the schools mascot and read a story to the class.

Experiences like these help build positive relationships with our local school community and support children’s confidence as they prepare for the exciting transition to Prep.
By being familiar with teachers and engaging in shared learning experiences, children begin to see school as welcoming and exciting place.

Thank you for visiting Undurba State School and helping to foster that connection between our centre and school.

Sustainability Challenge 🪴♻️

This past month our centre held a Sustainability Challenge across all rooms, and our Kindergarten class have been busy!!!

Using recyclable materials collected from around the centre and home, the children designed their own class robot, transformed newspaper into their own bags and worked together to build our community using cardboard boxes.

These projects came from the children's own voice and input when asked what they should build. Questions such as 'What can we build with boxes and newspapers?' and "What do you see in our community'.

These hands-on experiences encouraged children to think creativity, solve problems, collaborative with their peers and discovered how everyday items can be repurposed into something new and exciting. Through open-ended play and construction, they developed confidence in sharing ideas, planning and creating and working as a team.

Projects like these also help children build an understanding of sustainability and caring for our environment by recognising that many materials can be reused rather than thrown away.

We are so proud of the imagination, teamwork and innovation our Kindy children have shown throughout this exciting project. Well done!!!
