🌟 Symbols of Belief 🌟
This term, our Year 6 artists explored the vibrant world of Mexican folk art and the connections between artmaking, culture and religious belief. 🇲🇽🎨
We looked at traditional artworks and symbols including Día de los Mu***os, decorated crosses and the Sacred Heart ❤️‍🔥, exploring their cultural and spiritual meanings, purpose and highly decorative style.
Students then planned and created their own ceramic artworks, inspired by the bold patterns, colours and symbolism of Mexican folk art. 🏺✨ Most importantly, they considered their own symbols of belief, choosing imagery and symbols that represent something meaningful to their personal beliefs, values and experiences.
We are so excited to share these beautiful and deeply personal works as part of this year’s Court Grammar Day exhibition, “The Light Within and of Creation.” 💫
🎨✨ Art is not only about what we see — it can also be about what we believe, value and carry within us.

Congratulations to this group of Year 9 Arts Academy Musical Theatre students being selected for the Rock the Boat film festival. Their film will be screened at Hoyts Ace Rockingham on September 13th.

•One Big Voice•
Today our Primary Choir participated in the One Big Voice - Australia’s largest children’s choir.
Over 8000 children from choirs around WA came together to perform in front of a massive audience in RAC Arena.
Here are some highlights from the day.

🎨🐦 Year 5 Clay & Textiles: Birds Take Flight! 🐦🧵

Our Year 5 artists are exploring clay, textiles and mixed media this term through the wonderful theme of birds! 🪶✨

After researching their favourite bird species, students have been busy transforming their ideas into two unique artworks — one bird created in clay and another constructed using layered felt and textiles.

Inspired by Australian artist Peter Cromer, students have been experimenting with bright colours, bold shapes and simplified forms, learning how to stylise the features of their chosen birds while still capturing their unique character. 🎨🌈

We’re now halfway through the project, with their incredible clay birds recently completed! 🐦 These will soon be strung and displayed together as a colourful flock of Year 5 creations.

And there’s more to come! Next week, students will begin sewing their felt birds by hand, using needle and thread to bring their second bird designs to life. 🧵🪡

Yesterday evening, Mrs Cromie and Mrs Riseley attended Armadale’s Outside the Frame art exhibition, alongside Keeliah W, Year 11, and her family.
This year, both students and Visual Arts teachers were invited to exhibit their work, and the artworks certainly did not disappoint! 🎨✨
We were proud to have three of our talented students — Levi O, Keeliah W and Imogen L — exhibiting their artwork alongside our two Visual Arts teachers.
It was wonderful to see our students’ creativity celebrated alongside the work of practising artists and teachers, and we are so proud of the dedication and talent they have shown.
The exhibition is on throughout the week, so if you have the opportunity, we highly recommend heading along to see these wonderful artworks in person! 🖼️✨

🎨✨ Visual Arts Academy x NAIDOC Week Artist Workshop ✨🎨

As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, our Visual Arts Academy students had the privilege of taking part in a special artist workshop with Jermaine.

The session began with Jermaine sharing insights into his own artistic practice, explaining how symbolism, storytelling, and a strong connection to Noongar Country influence his work. Students explored the meaning behind his visual language and gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of culture, identity, and place in Aboriginal art.

Inspired by these ideas, students collaborated on four large-scale canvases centred around the themes of Water and Earth. Given the freedom to interpret these themes in their own way, they experimented with materials, explored symbolism, and created artworks that reflected their own ideas and creative voices.

Experiences like this are invaluable, encouraging students to learn directly from practising artists while developing cultural understanding, creative confidence, and respect for the stories that art can tell.

These collaborative artworks are now on display in The Pavilion. We invite our school community to stop by and admire the students’ incredible work.

🌸🎨 Year 5 Flower Vase Masterpieces! 🎨🌸

Our talented Year 5 artists have been busy creating these vibrant flower-in-a-vase paintings inspired by the colourful work of artist, author, and art teacher 🌼🖌️

Throughout this project, students developed their observational drawing skills, explored basic painting techniques, and learnt how to create tints, tones, and shades to bring depth and realism to their artwork. They also embraced bold colours and patterned backgrounds to make each piece truly unique! 🌈✨

Every single painting is bursting with personality, creativity, and beautiful colour combinations. 🌺 Which one is your favourite?

“Crafting Connections”
There is nothing quite like the gift of handmade art. Last week, our Academy students completed their term-long ceramic project, focusing on the dual challenge of form and function.
Students were tasked with creating two distinct ceramic works destined for loved ones: a figurative sculpture and a functional object. This project required immense technical discipline, patience through the firing stages, and a whole lot of heart.
We are so excited for parents and families to receive these beautiful, personal gifts. Thank you for an amazing term, artists!

🎨✨ On Friday, our Year 11 and 12 Visual Art students ventured into the city for an inspiring day at Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA)!
Students explored the incredible artworks featured in the Pulse exhibition, gaining inspiration from contemporary artists and creative ideas. They also had the opportunity to participate in hands-on artmaking activities, putting their own creativity into practice.
Throughout the day, students refined their visual analysis skills, engaged in meaningful discussions about art, and enjoyed experiencing Perth’s vibrant cultural scene.
A wonderful day of creativity, learning, and artistic inspiration! 🎨🖌️✨
