I teach that woodwork can become an integral and normal part of your life, just like being able to fry an egg, you can know what's required to fi
x the garden gate or put up the shelf. I teach that you get to see it's not a big jump or anything difficult or that requires years of practice to make simple and beautiful things from wood. I teach that there is a learning curve but that it's met with encouragement, gentleness and patience. You come to realise that your mind, body and hands work together in harmony and balance to create worlds in wood. You get a sense of how to start woodworking at home independently yourself. You get to feel the enjoyment of learning something completely new without the pressure of time, of doing it perfectly, while striving for excellence, in a safe environment that cruises at a comfortable pace. I teach that joinery making is a gentle art even though it incorporates the use of loud, sometimes intimidating Power Tools. You get a snapshot of the woodworking industry using knowledge to dilute any mystery. You get to see the advantages the tools and equipment bring and the benefits and leverage that they can offer. You get a whole different understanding of what the material of wood actually is, and how and why it behaves like it does when using tools on it. You get to feel confident and safe to use the power tools because of the focus gentle approach it's given without using fear tactics. You get to make friends with power tools, seeing with pleasure and excitement what wonderful and accurate things they can do. I teach that these are amazing machines and even though I don't understand the inner workings of them just like I don't understand the inner workings of my car, I can use them safely while I focus on the enjoyment of building with wood. You will be able to make smart decisions around buying either new or secondhand tools and their differences. I encourage you to trust my own judgement in this new woodworking world. You will have a clarifying experience having a peek at what is possible when joining wood and where the challenges are where the acceptable shortcuts tricks and tips of the trade are. You will learn what you may have often or even always thought, THAT YOU CAN DO THIS and by the step by step unique approach this workshop offers, you will leave feeling confident and ready to get started!
