Today, we acknowledge Indigenous Literacy Day and this year’s theme, Country Is Our Teacher.

It is a powerful reminder that children learn from what surrounds them, from the people who hold and share knowledge, and from the places and Communities they belong to.

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation celebrates First Nations stories, languages and cultures, supporting Community authors to share stories in the languages and contexts they belong to.

For many First Nations children, language and knowledge of Country are already a deeply embedded part of their lives. The work of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation recognises this, creating books that reflect children’s languages, cultures, experiences and Communities.

At Gowrie NSW, Empowerment is one of our four Program Foundations. We recognise the importance of supporting children to maintain and celebrate their home languages while developing English, and to learn about the languages, cultures and histories of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples whose Country they live and learn on.

Today is an opportunity to listen, learn and make space for First Nations voices, stories and languages.

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation’s free film and livestream is available today and can be a meaningful resource to share with children and educators: https://bit.ly/4wVs9ut

Families consistently tell us they're looking for educators who genuinely know and care for their child.

We believe every child deserves to feel seen, understood and valued each day.
That's why strong, consistent relationships sit at the centre of everything we do.

Our Primary Educator approach gives children the opportunity to build secure relationships with familiar educators who understand their strengths, interests and individual ways of learning.

Because children don't just need supervision. They need connection, trust and people who truly know them.

Every decision we make starts with one question. What's best for children?

As a not-for-profit organisation, our focus has always been children, families and communities. We reinvest into our services, our educators and our learning environments because that's where it makes the biggest difference.

We're here to create meaningful learning experiences, support families and strengthen our communities.

That's what for-purpose looks like.

Consistency creates connection.

Early education is about more than the experiences children participate in each day. It is about the relationships they build, the confidence they develop and the sense of belonging they create within their learning community.

Attending care on consecutive days provides children with the opportunity to become familiar with their routines, strengthen relationships with educators and peers and engage more deeply in their learning.

At Gowrie NSW, we value the time it takes to truly know every child, because strong relationships are the foundation for meaningful learning.

Primary Educator Relationships aren't part of our program. They are the foundation of it.

Before children can confidently explore, discover and challenge themselves, they need to feel a sense of belonging.

That sense of belonging is built through everyday moments. An educator welcoming a child by name, taking time to listen to their ideas, celebrating their achievements and supporting them through new experiences.
These relationships create the trust children need to grow.

At Gowrie NSW, our educators take the time to truly know each child because when children feel seen, heard and valued, they are empowered to learn.

Learning comes to life when children are given opportunities to explore, create and follow their curiosity 🌱

Through matching games, creative experiences, painting, playdough and outdoor play, children developed important skills including memory, communication, fine motor control and problem-solving. Open-ended experiences encouraged children to make choices, experiment with different materials and express their ideas in unique ways.

Whether creating artwork, discovering new painting techniques or collaborating with peers during group games, children were actively building confidence, creativity and connections through play.

The environments children learn in matter.

In early childhood education, we often refer to the environment as the "third teacher" alongside children and educators. That's because spaces, materials and experiences all influence how children explore, connect, think and learn.

Thoughtfully designed environments do more than look inviting. They encourage curiosity, support independence, foster relationships and create opportunities for meaningful learning.

Swipe through to explore how environments can become active participants in children's learning and development. 🌱
