OUTBACK NANNY WEEK

Newborns are beautiful but can be overwhelming and exhausting but Newborn Twins are sooo more… add to the mix that Dads a Farmer and the show must go on.

I’ve had a beautiful week up here in Bourke helping a lovely Mum and Dad with these beautiful boys.

Very hard to leave these bundles today but a great week of resetting and helping this amazing breast feeding Mum.

With twins it really helps and pays off to have a gentle routine now.

👩‍🍼with a three hourly feeding schedule it’s a easy transition to a Feed - Play -Sleep routine
👶these little troopers only have an awake time of about an hour.
👶I helped Mum to read their cues so we could wrap them up after a feed and and a bit of floor time and pop them down awake with a bit of shhush pat and let them drift off by them selves.
👶a lovely mix of contact naps,bassinet naps, pram naps and pouch naps.
👶helping Mum gain confidence with settling two babies at once .
😴letting Mum rest while I cooked hearty meals for all .

I love these jobs as I get to support and nurture the whole family both day and night as required. It’s such a privilege to be part of this journey and I love a road trip so distance is no object to me .

There is nothing more divinely perfect than going to a job on a farm with a lovely family and coming home with a Kelpie . 🥰 even when it’s for my Son but technically I’m the founder and Grandmother in her new life

My favourite Sleep Challenge
❤️When your baby is born with club feet and spends every night in a brace,
sleep can be very challenging , and for parents very confronting to navigate a full nights sleep.

This was a first for me too !
But I love a challenge.

🍼 Waking every two hours over night and requiring a bottle to fall asllep again.
🍼This in itself was having a negative impact on his solids intake during the day.
🍲 We spent the first week reducing the quantity of milk to increase his appetite for solids.
😴Changed the nap times and duration to increase the sleep pressure at night.
😴Did a lot responsive hands on settling for a few days to set him up for the 24 hr home consult.
😴 Started with the lunch nap and he settled and resettled himself very calmly.
😴Night time was the same and resettled so well that no bottles were required.
👩🏻‍🍼Babies are amazing given the right preparation and tools.
👩🏻‍🍼This little fellow trusted Mum implicitly and they were able to navigate full nights of sleep resulting in a much happier baby and sleep for the entire Family.

4 Months later it filled my heart to receive this text ❤️❤️

THE MARY POPPINS PACKAGE 3 days 24/7

😴I had worked with this lovely family with their first child at 8 months, and with this in mind…
😴Mum chose to have a beautiful four and half months with Bub number 2 of safe co sleeping and feeding on demand during the night, knowing that she could call on me to come and gently transition Bub to cot when the time was right for them both. ❤️
The 2 yr regression had also hit and bedtime was a becoming a time consuming struggle as toddlers can become expert negotiators to delay going to bed 😴

Outcomes after 3 days
4.5 months
👶A beautiful and successful transition to cot for 4.5 mth old.
😴Self settling , resettling.
😴3 naps a day, on the move and in the cot to compliment their life.
😴Night sleep now 7pm- 7am in his own cot with one dream feed.

2.5 yr old
😴 self settling again and asleep in 7 mins.
😴 slept all night no more wakes.
😴reward charts and boundaries made her feel secure and success was swift.

With soo much sleep happening in the day I was then able to cook and fill the freezer with solids for stage one and stage two foods. I love doing this to take the pressure off Parents with the time consuming preparation of solids
The NutriBullet got a work out !!! and Tiny bub discovered the delights of fresh home cooked solids.

If your goals are achievable after I asses weight and any health issues then I will be with you to achieve them ..

- 4.5 months old
- Ditched the dummy
- Learned to self settle
- Resettle to link sleep cycles.
- Slept through on night 2.

EXPRESSING & BOTTLE PRACTICE 👩🏻‍🍼🍼👨‍🍼

WHAT THE !!
It looks like a drop down oxygen mask on an plane.

This is The Haakaa Breast Pump. Soft silicone

A very affordable $30 ish addition to your life with a newborn.
😱Electric breast pumps are very effective but expensive and not the most user friendly gadgets for tired Mums or Dads to navigate.

😳Then there is the sterilising and not loosing the bits 😈

Breast feeding Mums can argue that “ I will never need to express because I am exclusively breastfeeding “
Which is great but can be restrictive in certain situations.

🍼Popping this little gadget on one breast to simply catch the let down as you feed from the other can result in 20 mls per feed .
6 feeds a day can yield 120 mls
You can then freeze it or use it for bottle practise or Dad time .
🍼Bottle practice once a day from around 6 weeks is a game changer. And a goal I help a lot of parents with .
🍼Think ahead to if your child has to go to daycare but can only be fed by you .
🍼 You get sick and your supply is affected.
👩🏻‍🍼 You will have a stash of breast milk so that wondering which is the best formula to use is not an issue.

I recommend these to all my new parents and they have been so relieved with the ease and convenience so there is no wasting the golden nectar of breast milk .
