In Week 4 we congratulated Mrs Janelle McPherson for 25 years of service to the Department of Education! We are so thankful to have her as our Business Manager at Moura State School. Without her, the wheels would fall off our cart!

Have you completed your School Opinion Survey yet? You have until tomorrow to have your say. An email with your own personal link was sent to each family at the beginning of the month. This is your opportunity to provide feedback about what our school does well and how we can improve. Only one link is generated per family and is emailed to the primary caregiver from 'schoolopinionsurvey'. If you haven't come across it, please check your junk email folder.

Year 5 camp update

Firstly, an apology for the late posting. Service on the island today has been terrible.

Day 3
Students snorkelled and got to jump off the front of the Gundoo Spirit and swim back through the hull of the boat. It certainly was the highlight of the day. In the afternoon they had a sand sculpture competition with whales as the theme. Students also go to do fish dissection.

Today they did out-rigging and had some beach time. For their final night, they will have a campfire and reflect on their time at camp before heading home tomorrow.

Once students have left the Marina, we will send a text with the ETA for their arrival back at school.

5/6D News...

Here are a few snapshots of 5/6D exploring the relative distances between the
planets and the Sun. We discovered that the four rocky planets are clustered close
together near the Sun, while the gas giants are much farther away and spread out
across the Solar System. Can you spot Jupiter or Saturn in the distance?

2026 CQ Robotics Competition - by Paisley A

On Friday the 31 of July, we travelled to the Central Queensland University in Rockhampton for the CQ Robotics Competition. We had three awesome teams that competed in four different rounds.

As each one of our robots successfully passed each round with a high or even 100% score, the obstacles progressively got harder as they went on. Although none of our Moura teams progressed into the final round, we all did a fantastic job considering there were 47 teams in total just participating in the rescue program!!

As our day was coming to an end and all of our trials were over, my teammates and I went for a walk around and watched some of the other competitors, such as the dancing robots and soccer playing robots, both of which were amazing and very well done.

Overall, we had an awesome and successful day.

Thanks to Mr Gilchrist and Mrs Simmonds for organising this day and making it happen.

Year 5 camp update

Day 2 brought the wind but that didn't stop the fun. We started the day as inspiring engineers where we worked in groups to build rafts. Later day we launched our rafts into the dam as Sandy Beach was deemed to rough. Some rafts didn't look so good by managed to surprise everyone as they made it through the challenge.

In the afternoon, we then did some photo orienteering and screen printing. We can't wait to see what day 3 brings!

Year 5 camp update

Day 1 brought lots of fun and excitement. We started off with the Maizie Bay walk where we learnt about how the Woppaburra peoples survived on Konomie Island for 4000 years. Then we went and had a little free play on the beach before the rain came and spoilt the fun.

Finally we finished off the day with a lesson about plankton. We all felt like little scientists and had loads of fun spotting the different types of plankton.
