'ADAPTIVE TEACHING'
Teachers need to be adaptive in their lesson approach to maximise learning for all.

Restricting the phonics process to ‘one-letter-one-sound’ will not allow teachers to be adaptive in their teaching. THE THRASS CHART is your teaching tool to maximise phonics learning to cater for each of your learner's needs. The THRASSCHART provides you with a central resource to teach speech to print.
You can be adaptive (differentiation) to all your learner's needs using one central resource. You can explain the letter ‘a’ in cat, and the letter ‘a’ in ball, therefore being adaptive to each of your learner's needs, and at the point of need.

SPEECH-TO-PRINT TEACHING
Phonemic Awareness is the undisputed predictor of literacy success - and yet many PA and phonics programs only focus on 23 phonemes - which leaves a deficit of 21 phonemes that learners are hearing and using in everyday speech.

What a great way to start the week!

The grade 3s gained insight into the metalanguage of graphs, digraphs, and trigraphs. Some students were providing a ‘sound’ when asked for the graph in a word so this is responsive teaching. Understanding a ‘graph’ is a writing/drawing clarifies the misunderstanding around the meta language so there is no miscommunication between teacher and students and peers to peers. It provides an opportunity for depth and breadth of learning, the opportunity to go sideways rather than up. Instead of just being able to ‘spell’ students have a deeper understanding of transferable learning. There are multiple opportunities to differentiate through multiple lessons. Check out the board! There is an opportunity to learn the following:

Meta language

Morphemes-(graph, pod) prefixes (di, tri, auto, tele, para, photo) & suffixes
(ic, ly, er, s, y)

mono (one) (monologue) (and got to love a mono on a bike-on one wheel)

di (two) (dialogue) links back to the digraph

diagonal
dissect

Triceratops (three horns)
Tri (three) links back to the trigraph
Ceratops (horn face)

Tricep
