Under 8’s Day at Windaroo State School 🌟

Yesterday, we were very lucky to be invited to participate in Under 8’s Day at Windaroo State School! 🎉

The children excitedly walked over to the school with Miss Sarah, Miss Harpreet and Miss Kinda. Once we arrived, we immediately spotted the police officers and their police car, which was a very exciting experience for the children! 🚓👮‍♀️👮‍♂️

We then had the opportunity to explore the many activities set up around the school. The children had so much fun exploring the big playground, swinging on the monkey bars, climbing on the fort and sliding down the big slide. 🛝🤸‍♀️

This was a wonderful experience of “big school” for many of the children. It allowed them to explore the school environment in a fun, safe and exciting way, helping to build their confidence and familiarity with the transition to school. 📚💛

A big thank you to Windaroo State School for inviting us and providing such a wonderful experience for our children!

Ever had one of those "What should I be doing with my child?" moments? You might already have the answer at home.

Earlier this year, every Goodstart family received a What & When for Families guide for each child. If it's been tucked away in a drawer since then, now might be the perfect time to pull it back out.

The guide is packed with simple, play-based activities that support your child's learning and development at home. Best of all, it's written in your child's voice, with ideas tailored to their age and developmental stage.

From singing songs with babies and playing peek-a-boo, to "I Spy" games, storytelling and treasure hunts with older children, the activities are designed to fit naturally into everyday moments you already share together.

We know learning doesn't only happen in the classroom. Those small moments at home can help build big communication, language and literacy skills.

Take another look through your What & When for Families guide to explore age-appropriate activities and learning ideas you can try together.

Today, we said a “see you later” to our beloved ECT, Miss Harsh. 💕

Miss Harsh is moving to a different state and will continue her journey with another Goodstart service. While we are sad to see her leave, we are so grateful for all the dedication, love, care and support she has shown during her time with us. 🌷

Thank you, Miss Harsh, for everything you have contributed to our centre and for the beautiful relationships you have built with the children, families and educators.

We wish you all the very best in your new adventure and new endeavours. May this next chapter bring you lots of happiness and success! 🌟

🔬🌱 Science Week in Action at Goodstart Mount Warren Park! 🌱🔬

Our children have been exploring, predicting, experimenting and discovering through a range of exciting hands-on science experiences!

🌌 Pre-Kindy
The children created their very own galaxies and explored our fascinating milk and oil experiment. Using droppers, they carefully added coloured milk to a tray of oil and observed how the liquids formed separate beads rather than mixing together. Before experimenting, the children made predictions, wondering whether the yellow, green and blue milk would mix together to create purple. We then tested their ideas and discovered what happened! 🧪✨

🪱 Kindy
The children explored worms and their living environments, learning about where worms live and how they contribute to our natural world.

🌱 Toddlers & Senior Toddlers
Our little gardeners got their hands dirty while planting their very own garden! They dug holes, planted seedlings and carefully watered their plants. The children will continue caring for their garden and watching their plants grow over time. 🌿💧

Science Week has been a wonderful opportunity for our children to ask questions, make predictions, test ideas, observe changes and learn through hands-on experiences.

What does child-led learning look like? 🎨

When presented with paint, our Senior Toddlers and Toddlers had the freedom to explore and create in their own way.
Rather than using the hanging paper and palm leaves as initially intended, the children made their own interpretations of art.

Following their curiosity, they chose to apply the paint directly onto their skin, exploring the texture, sensation and movement of paint through a hands-on experience.

This spontaneous exploration highlights the beauty of child-led learning—when we step back, observe and allow children to take the lead, their creativity can take us in unexpected and meaningful directions. 🌿🎨

Community Connections 🌱

This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Joe and Trace from Bunnings, who generously supported our community gardening journey. 🌿

The Bunnings team kindly donated garden beds, soil, seedlings, watering cans, gardening gloves and a range of gardening tools. They also ran a wonderful hands-on gardening session with the children, giving them the opportunity to get involved in planting and caring for our garden.

The children learnt about different types of plants, how to care for them and what they need to grow and thrive. It was a wonderful, informative and engaging experience that beautifully linked with and extended our ongoing gardening journey. 🌱

We are incredibly grateful to Joe, Trace and the Bunnings team for sharing their time, knowledge and generosity with us. Building strong connections with our local community creates meaningful learning opportunities for children and helps us continue to grow, learn and connect with nature together. 💚

There is something so special about watching children build friendships from a young age. 💕 Through play, laughter, sharing and supporting one another, children begin to create unique and trusting relationships with their peers.
