On our Term 4 School Development Day, the dedicated teachers at PHPS immersed themselves in the new NSW Science and Technology syllabus, engaging deeply with both the theoretical framework and practical applications intrinsic to the curriculum. The day was highlighted by an inspiring, hands-on lesson delivered by Mr Cook, our specialist Science teacher, who expertly facilitated an interactive exploration of electrical circuitry concepts aligned with syllabus outcomes.
Utilising Makey Makey kits, staff experienced firsthand the innovative integration of everyday materials—bananas, mandarins, lemons, limes—and laptops to create functional circuits capable of playing music. This engaging STEM activity not only brought abstract scientific principles to life but also emphasised inquiry-based learning, creativity, and problem solving - key competencies outlined in the syllabus.
The enthusiasm and high level of engagement demonstrated by the teaching staff underscored their commitment to enhancing student learning through dynamic, hands-on experiences.
