Science Week has been a fantastic opportunity for our children to explore, question, predict and discover the world around them. 🔬

Across the service, our children engaged in hands-on, exciting (and sometimes messy!) investigations, from UV turmeric prints and balloon rockets, to giant bubbles, exploring light and shadows, and erupting bicarb soda and vinegar volcanoes.

Our educators supported children to follow their interests, test ideas, problem-solve, and most importantly, have fun while learning how and why things happen.

At Nido, we believe children are capable, confident learners, and Science Week has been a wonderful reminder that great learning often starts with a simple question:

“I wonder what will happen if…?” 🌱🔍

Today we say goodbye to our beautiful Allissa, and honestly, it’s a hard one.

Allissa, you have been such a special part of our Nido family. Your warmth, kindness and genuine care for our children and families have made such a difference to our service, and the impact you have had will be felt long after today.

You have a way of making people feel welcomed, heard and valued, and that is such a beautiful quality. You have poured so much of yourself into our families, our team and our community, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you have brought to Mount Hutton.

Thank you for the laughs, the support, the conversations, the chaos, the little moments and all of the big ones. Thank you for always being someone we could rely on and, most importantly, thank you for simply being you.

While we are so sad to see you go, we are also incredibly proud of you and excited for everything that is ahead. You leave knowing that you have made a genuine difference here, and that you will always have a very special place in our Nido family.

We will miss you more than you probably realise. The service won’t quite feel the same without you sitting at the front desk.

Thank you for everything, Allissa. We are so lucky to have had you, and we wish you nothing but happiness, success and beautiful new beginnings. 💕🥰

Born on 7 June 2026 at 8:29am, weighing 3.95kg and measuring 52cm, and already so very loved.

A huge congratulations to Kate, Brendan and the whole family on the safe arrival of their beautiful little girl. We are absolutely thrilled for you all and so excited to welcome Eliana into the world.

Kate is such a valued part of our Nido family, and while we know she will be soaking up every precious moment with her gorgeous baby girl, we’ll be counting down the days until she returns to us early next year. 💕👶🏼

🖤💛❤️ Celebrating NAIDOC Week ❤️💛🖤

This week, our children have been immersed in meaningful experiences celebrating the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through storytelling, creativity, music, cooking and conversations, each classroom explored the richness of the world’s oldest continuing cultures in their own unique way.

In Classroom 1, our youngest learners explored NAIDOC Week through music and movement, sensory experiences, Indigenous stories and Aboriginal musical instruments. They created a collaborative “50 Deadly Years” artwork using recycled materials, explored Australian animals through coloured sand inspired by the Aboriginal flag, and discovered native ingredients by making a delicious lemon myrtle dip using leaves picked from our very own bush tucker garden.

Classrooms 2 and 3 welcomed Beau, one of our Aboriginal families, who shared the sounds of the didgeridoo and taught the children traditional animal dances. Together, the children also baked bush damper and lemon myrtle cookies, exploring native ingredients while connecting with culture through shared experiences.

In Classroom 4, children engaged in Dreamtime stories, created beautiful beading, and worked together on a collaborative artwork featuring Aboriginal symbols. These experiences encouraged curiosity, creativity and respectful conversations about culture and connection to Country.

Classroom 5 continued learning about influential Aboriginal people and had the privilege of spending time with Maree Bisby. Maree shared her family’s story, spoke about her work, where she comes from and who her Mob is. Inspired by these conversations, the children created artworks celebrating what they love most about Lake Macquarie, recognising the importance of place, community and belonging.

We are incredibly grateful to Maree, Beau and our families for generously sharing their knowledge, stories and culture with our children. These moments help foster respect, understanding and a genuine appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, creating meaningful learning that will stay with our children long beyond NAIDOC Week.

On Wednesday, the children from Classrooms 4 & 5 embarked on a meaningful visit to the MAC yapang - Museum of Art and Culture, yapang, to explore the inspiring Young Dobell exhibition.

This experience was a beautiful continuation of our creative journey with the Sydney Biennale, thoughtfully guided by our Classroom 5 Lead Educator, Sam. Together, the children explored a diverse collection of artworks, taking time to observe, wonder, ask questions and share their own interpretations. Inspired by what they discovered, they created self-portraits that celebrated their identities, creativity and unique ways of seeing the world.

Throughout the gallery, we witnessed the small moments that spark big thinking, children making connections, expressing ideas with confidence and embracing the joy of learning through art. Experiences like these encourage curiosity, nurture creativity and help children see that inspiration can be found in the world all around them.

After exploring the exhibition, we shared lunch together before ending our adventure with plenty of laughter and a joyful roll down the grassy hill, because sometimes the simplest moments become the most memorable.

At Nido, we believe every experience is an opportunity to connect, create and discover together, supporting each child to grow at their own pace while fostering a lifelong appreciation for art, community and the wonder of learning. 🎨💚

🎉 Celebrating 3 Wonderful Years 🎉

Yesterday, we marked a very special milestone as our service celebrated its third birthday.

Our children and educators gathered together in the Piazza to share birthday cake, sing Happy Birthday, and reflect on the many moments of learning, growth, and connection we’ve experienced over the past three years.

Every child, family, and educator who has been part of our community has helped shape our service into the welcoming and nurturing place it is today. Thank you for trusting us to be part of your child’s early learning journey.

As we celebrate this milestone, we would also like to recognise the families who have been with us since we first opened our doors. Your ongoing support and partnership have been an important part of our story, and we have a small token of appreciation waiting for you.

To all of our families, whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or have joined us more recently, thank you for being part of our village. Each day brings new discoveries, meaningful connections, and moments that remind us how special these early years truly are.

We look forward to creating many more memories together as we begin our next chapter. 💛

🎂 Happy 3rd Birthday to our wonderful community!

This week, our Classroom 5 enjoyed two wonderful excursions to Charlestown Square to view their artwork featured as part of the Sydney Biennale. We travelled together by bus, excited chatter filling the seats as we made our way into the community. On arrival, we walked up to the display and took time to explore the artwork, along with the “You’re Kidding Me” Child and Family Expo.

Throughout the experience, the children showed curiosity, wonder, and pride as they recognised art in a public space and connected it back to their own creative voices. Conversations sparked naturally as they observed, questioned, and shared ideas with one another.

These shared experiences outside the service help children see themselves as active participants in their wider community. They build confidence, deepen their sense of belonging, and open up rich opportunities for learning that can’t always be replicated within the walls of the classroom. 🎨🚌✨

Sea of Hearts for Reconciliation ❤️🖤💛

Since 2023, our Sea of Hearts has been a meaningful part of Nido’s reconciliation journey, a growing symbol of connection, respect, and unity within our community.

Each year, our children, families, and educators come together to create hearts that reflect the importance of belonging, listening, and walking alongside one another with care and understanding. Every heart represents a shared commitment to reconciliation and creating a future where all cultures, stories, and identities are valued and celebrated.

Through meaningful conversations, creative expression, and shared experiences, we continue to nurture children’s understanding of culture, community, and the importance of reconciliation in everyday life.

Today, our Sea of Hearts reminds us that even the smallest acts of kindness and connection can create lasting waves of change. ❤️
