How do you prove your land is being managed sustainably when every agency, market and investor wants something different?

That’s the challenge our researchers at Federation University’s Centre for eResearch and Digital Innovation (CeRDI) are tackling head on.

In partnership with Food Agility CRC, Corangamite Catchment Management Authority, Precision Agriculture and Southern Farming Systems, CeRDI is developing a new environmental data platform to make reporting easier, faster and more efficient for landowners.

Led by Professor Francisco Ascui and Systems Analyst Programmer Richard Archer, the project aims to support farmers and land managers by bringing together public and private data sources into one adaptable system. The goal is to cut down duplication, reduce costs and give landowners the tools they need to demonstrate their environmental credentials, whether it is for government, investors or export markets.

The platform will be trialled in western Victoria, including the Leigh River, Native Hut Creek, Bruce Creek and Moorabool River catchments.

This work empowers our regions and helps build a more sustainable future for agriculture.

Did you know we have a student Physiotherapy Virtual Care Clinic that supports Gippsland communities?

The Federation Physiotherapy Virtual Care Clinic provides low or no-cost physiotherapy for people living with chronic conditions in Gippsland. The clinic is based at our Churchill Campus and is run by third and fourth-year Bachelor of Physiotherapy students, supervised by registered physiotherapists and an Allied Health Clinical Manager.

People accessing the clinic receive support for a range of health concerns, including joint pain, arthritis, neurological conditions, long COVID and post-stroke recovery. The clinic operates virtually, making it easier for people in our region to access care without the need to travel.

To make the service more accessible, we have partnered with Churchill Neighbourhood Centre and Gippsland Multicultural Services. These partnerships help people who may not have the technology, space or safety at home to access appointments in a supported environment.

This service is helping meet the health and wellbeing needs of our Gippsland community while giving our students valuable hands-on experience in virtual care. It is one of the many ways Federation University is working to grow and support the regional allied health workforce.

We're inviting you to The Master Potter: A Retrospective of the Works of Peter Pilven.

As a Federation University alumnus and long-serving teacher, he spent over 40 years guiding generations of visual arts students and building a strong creative legacy in our region.

Now, his life’s work is being honoured in a new exhibition at Ross Creek Gallery. The retrospective brings together Peter’s striking ceramic pieces, offering a glimpse into a career defined by craft, colour and connection.

Peter’s daughter Ruby Pilven, who completed her Master of Education with us, runs the gallery and continues her family’s deep connection to the arts and to Federation University.

The Master Potter: Peter Pilven – A Retrospective of His Works will open with an event on Saturday 3 May 2025 from 1 pm to 4 pm, with the exhibition on display every weekend until 8 June at Ross Creek Gallery in Smythes Creek.
