⭐️ GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT ⭐️
Lara Henry, Full-time Joondalup Graduate
What inspired you to pursue this career?
Exercise changed my life in so many ways. When I first started to exercise 2 years ago I would have never imagined I would fall in love with it. Fitness gave me so much more than physical results it gave me confidence, discipline and something I look forward to everyday. I became a coach because I want to give other people that same feeling and help them realise they are way more capable of so much more than they think they are.
What do you consider your biggest professional achievement so far?
Would have to be going from someone that despised exercise to loving it and then making a career out of it and also to be given so many opportunities to work at different gyms. Completing 2 hyrox’s has been an achievement for me and also losing 15kg has been one of the biggest achievements considering that led me to coaching.
Which skills from fit college have been most valuable?
The practical side of FIT College has been one of the most valuable parts for me. Learning how to correctly perform and teach exercises has helped me feel much more confident when coaching. Being able to understand correct technique, identify areas that need improving and give clear cues is something I use every time I coach.
What advice would you give to students?
Don’t wait until you feel completely ready! I didn’t think I had what it takes to be a coach and I’m still learning everyday but it’s been the best new chapter of my life and if you really want something you have to go for it and go outside of your comfort zone even if you don’t feel ready.
What are your plans for the future?
Someday when I have a bit more experience I want to be a head coach and later down the track owning a gym one day would be amazing! But for right now I’m just excited to keep learning because I feel like I learn something knew everyday with coaching :)
Congratulations Lara! It’s amazing to watch you achieve so much since graduating 🥹 This is just the beginning 🖤
