Congratulations to our 2026 Music Director Award recipients:

🏆Music Director Award for Vocal Ensemble: Stacey Theel - Loreto College Marryatville (SA)

🏆Music Director Award for Stage Band: Deanna Whelan - Marryatville High School (SA)

These awards recognise the dedication, leadership and musical excellence of directors who inspire the next generation of young musicians through Generations in Jazz.

We also welcome Stacey and Deanna to the Generations in Jazz Advisory Panel, where they will help guide and support the future of the 2027 event.

A special thank you to Billy Hyde Music and Generations in Jazz for generously supporting these awards and helping celebrate the outstanding educators who inspire the next generation of musicians.

The Callisto Small Jazz Combo Spirit Awards were presented to ensembles in Division 3 and were generously sponsored by the Callisto Family.

The award goes to Flinders Christian Community College Carrum Downs Campus (VIC) and Belgrave Heights Christian School (VIC) for Division 3.1 and 3.2

How cool is this?

The seeds of The 60 Four were planted on a trip to Generations in Jazz more than a decade ago. Now they're preparing for the biggest performance of their career in The Voice Australia Grand Final.

Stories like this remind us why GIJ exists: inspiring young musicians, creating lifelong connections, and helping dreams take flight.

Adelaide’s own The 60 Four has made it through to The Voice Australia Grand Finale tonight.

Speaking with 891 ABC Adelaide’s Jo Laverty and Jules Schiller, director, founder and lead vocalist Ben Francis said the group never imagined their school music project would one day reach a national stage.

“We formed in an Adelaide music classroom in 2014-15 after being introduced to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons by Michael Griffiths. We started singing those iconic harmonies and instantly fell in love with the sound. On a bus trip to Generations in Jazz, the four of us thought, ‘Why not give this a go?’”

Now, more than a decade later, the group is preparing for the biggest performance of its career.

“We can’t believe it. It’s pretty surreal. In the Grand Final, all the performers get to do a duet with their coach, so it’s going to be a very special night.”
